@@gamingonlinux A self hosted, deck update refresh server set up could make for a good video. Something that re-does changes to the OS (such as pacman installs, ssh server enabling, or OS config changes) after a system update wipes everything. I believe there's something like 3 different backup programs that could be used to do it.

@@gamingonlinux As a linux developer I am still trying to use my deck this way. With RO mode for the install. But I wished they added at least the lxc utils so I can create some lxc's to develop and build in.

By default the Steam Deck filesystem is locked. Any edits you do if you choose to manually unlock it, will be lost when SteamOS upgrades. This is not a valid option for the majority of users.

Any recommendation for any alternatives to get SGDBoop (SteamGridDB plugin to easily add artwork to non-Steam games) working on Deck then? Flatpak versions of Chrome and Firefox don't work, as they rather call the SystemHandler rather than SGDBoop. :(

why googles chrome? why not chromium it isn't good but it's still better then with the closed source google stuff ontop the Blink engine

Probably because vanilla chromium is currently the worst of the chromium based web browser in term of correctly capturing controller inputs (on another linux machine, it mixes up completly the buttons when using a controller on Xcloud and the like) , at least for cloud gaming web clients. Actually the best chromium based browser for this particularly feature is currently Edge (Google Chrome is now near but still need one more loop to work with the Steam Deck), but Valve likely didn't expect that Microsoft would be so supportive of the Steam Deck, and the SteamOS project always was meant to stop Valve's dependance on Microsoft.

Odd that they didn't include it as a Flatpak by default

Chrome is not an alternative for those using mozilla sync, I'll move on to the unofficial appimages (since the flatpaks are pretty broken), as their only specific issue is a broken icon image (easy to fix by editing the desktop file). Sadly other firefox-specific issues still remain (like their wonky window behavior under gamescope).

im using brave. but when i launch it in game mode it seems like it's running in lower resolution. it seems this is happening with all regular apps that use windows instead of fullscreen. anyone knows how to force them to use the max resolution?

​@@IcoKirov I actually bought a switch with the sole intention of modding it so I could at least use a web browser and Steam in home streaming. That would have been sufficient for my needs. Lo and behold, the big N locked it down and it's no longer possible. So now I have an expensive paperweight that I can't do anything with. I mean, it just doesn't make sense that THEY can tell me what to do with MY device. I wasn't pirating or anything, I just wanted to use MY device that I spent MY money on, for MY needs. The last straw for me was when I bought the digital version of Plants vs Zombies for my partner and I to play. We were told (even on the digital storefront page) that split screen co-op worked with this game. Come to find out, there's no such feature! I contacted the big N and they told me to eat rocks. It was MY fault that I didn't "Google it" (seriously, thats what they told me), even IF their store page said it did!! WOW! $60 down the drain. I was just blown away. THAT will be the LAST product I purchase from N. P.S. Sorry for the book.

@@bugs181 I just started work, when I get back home I will check. But I see in flathub that there is a flatpak for bitwarden, so it should be in the discover store as well. If it's not for some weird reason, you should be able to add it from the terminal. Still I will check in the evening (local evening that is)

Came to this video just to make sure my favorite browser (also Brave) was available. From one online friendly person to another whom doesn't have their steam deck yet, could you find out if Bitwarden is also available? These are the ONLY two things I haven't seen talked about being available on the Deck.

Firefox is usually integrated with Linux distros, so it's quite possible that they didn't notice that it was the native install and not the flatpak.

I installed chrome immediately since it's the easy to use gaming mode browser and I wanted parity in desktop mode. On my PC I used to use Firefox until performance bugs arose and now I'm back to chrome. I have 64 gigs of ram so i'm not worried about chrome anymore haha

If I write bad / slow code, I will notice on Firefox faster than on Chrome. Chrome has a bunch of optimizations which let you get away with bad code, which is good for the user (I guess), not so good for the developer.

I just removed Firefox sudo pacman -Rsy Firefox, and installed the flatpak. Problem solved. Thanks for this.

@@unoriginalname771 I just got a message back from steam support, they gave me a code to enter in konsole to reinstall Firefox. Hopefully it works, really annoying getting a brand new system and having to enter codes lol

This is an old video and the issue was resolved

The flatpack version of firefox hardware video decoding acceleration does not work on steamdeck. Video keeps freezing, I had to download a version from mozzila homepage, then it works fine. But now I have to use a pocket version that's not installed, just extracted. I dunno why more people are not talking about this, it almost makes me wanna switch browsers.

I can't install both on steam

I just bought a Steam Deck because it was on sale. Like, I've been thinking about it and thought the perfect time now is when I can save on it. I am excited! Seeing that it can access the web, I'm hoping it can load Twitch because I'm thinking of live streaming and might want to use it as a second screen to see the playback.

Just got a steam deck and everytime i try to open the browser it just says it was not found on any availible softwares.. so does firefox not work now or something? If so what should i use for the browser?

They can put out an OLED for even more cash but cant fix this shit "F" THEM!
