I'm using Proton GE right now, I'm just not sure if it'll make unsupported games playable; it's a shame really because one of my *favorite* games, Tales of Berseria, is unsupported on Steam Deck even though it seems like it should play just fine on it. That was one of the games I'd been looking forward to taking *off* my Windows desktop and taking with me wherever I went.

You wouldn’t see it extend like that. Proton is built on top of Wine, it’s Wine you would use elsewhere.

I just got my deck last week. I can not seem to get Xbox cloud gaming up and running. Is anyone else having this problem? More importantly, does anyone know how to do it? I can't find Edge bata either.

Edge is no longer beta on the deck. You can just download the full version. I used the Microsoft guide to set it up and it works beautifully!

The fix to Elden Ring is much appreciated. With this fix Elden Ring runs better on my Linux system than it does on my Windows system. On Windows, Elden Ring still has a lag spike that occurrs every now and then.

That’s related to the shader cache on PC. It’s known to be better on consoles/deck

You're one of those people who thought having Uncharted and Fifa on Vita would be a great selling point, aren't you? xD Buying mobile, low power hardware to play latest games is a bit of griefing yourself... I mean sure, you can but IDK about you but it will take me +- 20 years to go through my Steam backlog if I wanted to finish everything... enjoying Arkham Asylum and Shadow of Mordor at the moment.

Honestly, just use Proton GE if the game doesn't work. That seems to work way better than valves official releases.

With Proton GE I can play the version of Tempest 4000 that dose not say "on windows 10" but there is no music just the sound effects.

Is this proton thing more optimized on the steam deck than it is on other Linux machines? I'm asking to try to understand if the steam deck is better optimized than other handhelds

The benefit of the deck is the version of Linux it has which is streamlined to work with games. That OS handles controller support EXTREMELY well. As far as I know proton works just as well in other devices but the cherry on top is the controller support and the user friendly nature of the Steam Deck OS which lets you edit setting per game easily.

I'm just praying for Vermintide 2 and Halo MCC anti-cheat support

@@matthewmoiczek3893 According to people on community discussion on steam you kinda can work with a whole lot of warp fuckery (tweaking :P) but you can't connect to people - you have to be the host if you play on Linux and people connect to you and progression works and everything.

Define biggest classics and which ones of them don't work? Deck runs pretty much everything I throw at it - I didn't go through all my 1350 Steam games just yet but so far all 70 games I've downloaded run just fine? Right now major problem is EAC... wish I could play some Vermintide 2 on the Deck but no dice...

Linux gaming has never been so exciting.

I think their priority should be to get all games from the last 30 years working

Steam only came out in like 2005 so it would not have games from befor that.

It definitely hasn't fixed the white screen issue for Elden Ring :( I still need to restart the game/device a few times to get into the game.

I've been running GE-Proton7-29 on mine. So I'm guessing I've had these fixes already?

Possibly, possibly not. GE-Proton is a community-built thing that doesn't go through QA like actual Proton does.

Gears 5? Single player works, need to run ProtonGE and remove EAC folder from the game. Obviously no multi but that's problem for majority of games suffering from EAC shit show having 2342345315324521 different versions in every game...

It's just an update in your Steam Downloads like anything else.

The civ 4 fix is interesting just from the game being so old, and yet, the thought of Civ 4 (well, Fall From Heaven II) in a portable form was one of my dream use-cases for the Deck. Bravo!

Yeah are so many PC games it will be next to impossible for it to have 100% compatibility with every single game in existence. It's not like console Emulation where there are less games to work with for each generation. (Yeah I know Proton isn't an emulator but a compatibility layer)

Looks like this update did indeed fix the issue some Falcom games like Trails in the Sky were having with video/cutscene animations not playing.

Will this help run big title games better or does it do nothing for it? Like I just bout detroit become human, will this do anything to it?
