It seems there might be a little problem with the graphics driver in the latest #SteamOS 3.3 release for #SteamDeck. Something I've noticed over the past week, we really have to start these kinda discussions with what mode the thing being discussed is happening in. Maybe I'm just weird because I primarily use it in desktop mode, but it's lead to quite a bit of confusion for me.

Thank you for raising awareness of this! I think people would not be as annoyed if Valve made it easier to downgrade steamOS to a previous version. All their current system does is making me not want to update, and that defeats the point of having a stable build.

You can install Beta channel with Developer mode and after update back to stable channel, then it will be old SteamOs, with some glithes of course (i caught stretched "low battery" and "achievement unlocked" window, close to fullscreen).

Let's hope so. I reported the issue over a month ago, they did nothing and pushed the issue to the stable release. Unbelievable if you think about it.

It's great that stuff like this gets picked up quickly by the community, hopefully Valve will get on it. btw does anonymous data collection include frame times? Could be a great tool for Valve to spot these issues automatically.

Thanks for posting this. I have been dealing with minor audio hitches on SteamOS 3.3 (I was previously on the beta channel) and it turns out it's actually the microstutter in general causing the audio hitches to manifest. If you receive a response from Valve to your email, can you put a pinned comment or something on this video? I've seen a lot of people report this issue but no indication from Valve yet that there is an issue yet, so any sort of acknowledgment from them would be helpful to know about.

Yeah I've definitely noticed this. A general performance decrease as well what seems to be increased fan use/noise. DiRT4 (Verified) was the biggest offender that I've noticed.

I noticed the same thing too. I was trying new vegas for the first time, with NV Tick Fix despite it working surprisingly well without it unlike Windows, and setting the GPU clock manually sorted the issue. Seems like a GPU clock algorithm optimisation issue

As you mentioned, I 100% lock my GPU clock. I literally don't care about the battery as I use my Steam Deck on a dock with mouse, keyboard and controller and out to a HDTV. But... My setup isn't the norm. So, of anyone is about to play a (bigger game) but something smaller like an indie title, just get into the habit of locking your GPU for best performance. 👌

I've been on preview channel almost since getting my steam deck. I just thought the micro-stuttering in most games was just inherent to the device. Nice to know I can set per-device profiles with a locked clock to fix it though.

This is something that happened in general with RDNA2 after the latest drivers. If they used the same code, that would explain it. There's a few fixes, not sure which though.

The Steam Deck uses the open source Mesa drivers, totally different to Windows if that’s what you mean.

Resident Evil Village was pretty much unplayably stuttery for me after this update, I did reboot and it seemed to fix it, but perhaps I also set a fixed GPU clock. The built in steam deck fsr option has always caused stutter for me too.

Thanks! if you write to Valve a list of problems please write also about Red dead redemption 2 new Vulkan shaders reduce the Vram from 6000mb to 3000mb and that it makes the game performance really bad and barely playable. Before the update everything was fine...

100% don’t update if you play AAA games like red dead 2 ect , looks like they’ve limited the available allocation of ram to the gpu which is chugging performance.

Might be a placebo effect after this video but I've been playing standard dark souls 2 and after the update I noticed some stutters when I launched the game but then they went away.

I usually lock my GPU clocks anyway when tuning performance and examining for stuttering, so this completely flew over my head as an issue :D

The updating process alone for me is trial and error - the new features are great but besides some errors, I always need to hard reset my Steam Deck at some point with every new update.

I've been having issues with monster hunter rise for 2 days now. I got my steam deck about 4 days ago, and on day 1 with no messing with settings across about 2 hours of gameplay I had one stutter. Yesterday in 30 minutes of gameplay I'd have a stutter every minute or two. It's infuriating. I haven't tested other games for this long yet, but it happens at 40hz/40fps and now I'm checking to see what happens on 60. Not capping the gpu clock also makes the framerate generally unstable so I have that on manual too.

I know it's an old update and it has been solved. But I'm experiencing something similar with Cyberpunk 2077 using Heroic Launcher. Every time I crash a car for example, the audio starts stuttering and cracking. Anyone else having a similar issue?

Updated again and.... Micro stuttering is still present. Forza Horizon 5 used to run 42-45fps easy but now it runs 45fps and drops to as low as 30fps. Makes the game really hard to enjoy. Even locking the GPU doesn't help.

@@FragmentedDisc Probably a different issue as this specific issue was absolutely solved. I would suggest sending Valve a bug report noting exactly what titles you see it in.
