I think once the lighting bug is sorted (some don't see it, but plenty I saw did have it), a 40FPS/40Hz lock will do quite well. That said, it was still fun IMO.

Ya I booted it up this morning and for the first 20 minutes the game chugged like mad even on low. I'm assuming that was the shaders loading because after I had a tea break it ran like butter and I have been playing it every chance I can. It's sucks we can't have the frame rate raised yet but it's still really fun even on 30fps

Yeah, stuttering and then not in the same places is shader compiling which DXVK_ASYNC in GE-Proton absolutely helps with, as you can see in my video it's pretty smooth. Valve doesn't include it officially for a reason though, but in this title it's a nice improvement on Deck.

@gaming on linux I think the precompiled shader needs to be uploaded by the steam community automaticallly by playing the game over time. I think in a day or two the dxvk async command become useless because the precompiled shader will be available for download. so far so good for the steam deck and the linux community!

Yes, it is usually the case that Valve gathers shaders from players and then sends it out to download. However, clearly this title did not have proper prior-testing to have it built up so GE with ASYNC helps a lot for now.

I love the content 👍 but everyone should avoid this garbage as imo it's like a alpha version of the game agressive pop in muddy textures .list of problems with this game is endless

Firstly have you played it yourself Secondly let people play what they want. Games are meant to be fun and I can say after playing it any chance I can today that, ya the game is fun. It's not Ragnarok but it's not trying to be it's not trying to be a grand epic narrative driven adventure that is graphically intense it's meant to be fun and the game succeeds in its mission.

I kept seeing "30fps" thinking it was just abnormally high default settings but... a 30fps cap?! That's a shame. Hoping we can hit 60 on this someday with some patches but can't always trust AAA to come in clutch with that kinda stuff.

It's certainly an odd one and I can't seem to find the cause. Some see it, some don't and those that do see it *bad* so 30FPS is just a fix for now. Once the issue is solved, I imagine it will do well at 40Hz/40FPS.

when i saw that opening i was just sad. So much hacking just to play on the deck. Then 30 fps lock? Steam is grating my patience with this thing. Windows would just work but Linux will always be an impediment. Im sure sega will patch it up.

Well, it's noted Unsupported for a reason, these are all workarounds to get it to run. Normal people wouldn't be doing this and would stick to Verified games. With Windows, Valve would be handing over control of the entire thing to another company.

I was playing on desktop this morning and would have random dips that would quickly drop to the 40's before picking back up 60 fps. I was curious if this was a Sonic issue or a Linux issue?

@@gamingonlinux Update: I closed the game last night, and when I went to boot today it seemed like there was a small update pushed. I don't know if it had anything to do with the update or closing the game after I had lowered all settings, but now the flickering seems to be gone for me? Fingers crossed it sticks around? I haven't implemented the GE Proton change yet.

Im a huge fan of Sonic since the Genesis days, and while this looks decent, it looks kind of ho hum to me. I am putting it on my wishlist, but I don't think Ill get it until it is on a decent sale.

Yeah dude. Even sonic omens can maintain 40fps at 9W on the deck. This is an optimization issue

So a month later, got this on a sale. I think they might have fixed the visual issues? I tried playing high at 60fps and it didn't really change much from low to 30fps. I might have had some micro skips here and there. I dropped it back to low at 30fps, mostly because the framerate still hovered around 28-30fps, so might as well drop it to low at 30fps to save the battery and not tax the Deck. Btw, Sonic Frontiers looks great on the Deck. You can't really notice the low graphics and even the speed of the game doesn't feel as sluggish as I expected it to me. It feels very responsive and once I disabled blur effect, you can notice better detail on Sonic, especially when you're maxed out on rings and he glows. Also, running it out of the box and initially didn't add the DXVK_ASYNC launch option. Even adding the launch option with zero compatibility (still), I can't notice any change. The game runs great and I just left the launch option, I don't feel like it had negative affects. I don't know how many updates (if any) that this game has had since launch, but Steam did do several OS updates since.

So I got Ge:proton-7-41 on steam on the deck and I set it as the proton for sonic frontiers as well as doing the launch settings command but even after that I can't get it to launch, what would be getting in my way?
