As requested, many many times, here's the Heroic Games Launcher guide for Epic Games on #SteamDeck. I had to wait, as some fixes were needed that I discussed with the developer. By then heroic will have a flatpak installer and it can also expose the games' .desktop files to the OS. It should be a lot simpler soon.

You can inject Proton into Heroic if you want to use that over what HGL comes with. ProtonUpQt :)

Really, honestly, there's not a huge amount of difference but when Heroic has some more upgrades, it will also work properly for GOG too - so using Heroic might be the better option.

Bro just found your amazing videos! I've got one question thats driving me crazy... I sadly don't know anything about linux, used ubuntu from time to time but not in depth. How do I get an onscreen keyboard for firefox or the general desktop interface? do I have to plug in a real keyboard even in steamdeck mode? because if I open Firefox (added as a non-steam game) and click in a typingbox, the keyboard does not show up...

Lutris doesn't currently work on the Deck, unless you use developer mode, which I'm not willing to do with the only Deck I have in case it gets screwed up.

It is possible through the Desktop Mode but you have to set the SH installer as Executable in Properties, if ya meant the Windows installers from GOG then Heroic Games Launcher or Lutris can do it for you as both of them have a GOG integration.

@@brandon_nope Well, performance wise it's awesome. But I noticed some missing textures in the Sector 7 slums (where most of the outdoor environments just look grey). Tried it with several Proton versions, and no luck. It's weird because on all my other Linux PCs, it's flawless.

The legendary binary gets created in a temporary folder only when the AppImage is running. Thus, you need to keep the AppImage running all the time. That's why it is advised to specify an alternate one.

You can install it directly or some launchers will even let you use existing installs such as Battle.net launcher. I haven't tried this launcher out yet but it might be possible with this one as well.

Great question! Heroic is a native app, which can get around any quirks of running EGS with Proton. That and it offers up the GOG support too, and allows you to configure a lot more than the EGS does.

Follow the tutorial that he did to install the Epic Game Store into Steam (not this tutorial, but the native Windows Epic's client), but instead of adding the executable of the Epic Store, add the executable of the Fitgirl repack and follow his tutorial accordingly. Should probably work.

Rocket league works really well under linux. I've been playing it on my desktop and also managed to run Bakkesmod alongside in the same wine prefix. Only requirement is for launching Bakkesmod and having it detect RL is having Wine/Proton GE

Weird, I couldn't get HBL to create scripts for me, but when I launched HGL from the terminal, I could copy the command line for games from that and create my own basic scripts 👍

Thanks for making this tutorial. I tried it but it doesn't seem to work. I installed Ape Out from EGS and generated the script, added the script to Steam. The game works fine if I launch it from Heroic in Desktop mode, but in Steam (game mode) if I launch it it just shows the Steam loading screen for a few seconds and then returns to the Steam interface. Any ideas? EDIT: next day now and it's working without doing anything else, so nevermind! :D

@@Rizu7501 I did notice that the script doesn't always pick the correct executable to make a shell script for. You could try adding the right exe from the Steam dialog directly. I also think it might help to run the game from desktop mode at least once.

Sadly the launcher in steam does not start the epic version of Rocket League. Despite done the same as you. When I start it from heroic launcher it works just fine.

I’m really confused because I downloaded heroic went on epic and played rocket league , but the graphics in rocket league were very bad. I put ingame graphic settings on whatever was best and the anti aliasing in game was terrible. I have no clue how to fix this
