At least for firefox: Just install the newer version via flatpak in discover. Then you can right click on the startmenu and select menu items and disable the non-flatpak firefox shortcut.

@@isaboll1 i wouldn't be surprised if when steam os 3 is fully released that the steam client in windows is updated to allow use of the controls as a controller via a desktop configuration

@@sagepirotess6312 Same here. What I meant was that, under SteamOS, Steam Controllers are recognized as controllers, even if Steam were to be closed. It switches from regular "Lizard" mode to being recognized as a game controller, depending on if an application queries and uses game controllers. That behavior however was never brought onto other platforms like Windows, and came to other Linux distributions as a result of the SteamOS kernel changes being merged with the main kernel. Given that, it's likely the same circumstance with the Steam Deck, since now the Deck has the same behavior

@@kornfed3308 I wouldn't get my hopes up for anything extensive besides the degree of support that's already being provided, or stuff coming through the Steam client in general being updated (so updates to regular drivers for basic hardware support, or to fix the bugs with the existing drivers). I say that mainly because that's how Valve has always operated, even with respect to Steam Machines in the past (as Steam controllers were supported like this in SteamOS versions for years, yet not on external OS's such as Windows. Linux distributions outside of SteamOS got the same support as a result of SteamOS).

@@traindoctor first of all. Windows 10 and 11 are both listed as supported operating systems. And second, they have already provided initially and updated the drivers for windows on steam deck. It's not really too hard to grasp that they may and probably will continue to develop and add drivers for further windows support.

That's not going to happen and it's not Valve's prerogative. You're using an unsupported OS.

If they really fixed the wfi issues, this will resolve the only issue I had with the deck. It had to split my networks to at least only have sporadic connection issues instead of losing connectivity every hour or so, and none of the workarounds helped. Let's hope it actually works.

@@Sizzurpi You can run any windows app via proton compatibility. You can add .exe as non steam shortcut and then select proton for compatibility layer and it launches that installer and then you can play it.
