Could you try Gothic 1 and/or 2? They have a funny control scheme, but should be pretty easy to map to a controller.

I tried it on linux with a steam controller, the mapping wasn't quite as easy as i thought, i guess it works better on the steam deck.

Is the color of the onscreen keyboard tied in any way to the controller config or game? Maybe a coincidence but I think it's cool that it fits the color scheme of Fallout with the green tint.

Man, that big reveal when you step outside, such a Bethesda hallmark (back when Bethesda were still independent anyway). Love it. Even the level up sound like Skyrim. Great heritage. Can't believe we're seeing this on a handheld.

I actually had that experience at E3. I had no idea what Fallout 3 was. (I bought Oblivion prior, but never actually played it.) Once I got out of the vault, I asked the rep where I was supposed to go and he said "anywhere". That was almost 15 years ago now and I have every achievement for every BGS game on multiple platforms.

Fun fact: Fallout 3 originally was planned to be on mobile phones! But it was cancelled.

strange on my deck fallout doesn´t launch. all is exectly as here but i get booted back to my library after i hit play at the launcher... sad!

What I'd like to see is lowering the tdp and other settings to give the longest battery life without impacting gameplay. Maybe you could change your videos to focus on the most battery life for each game so we can minimise fan noise, heat and power draw. Just a thought.

That's exactly the kind of game I would love on a handheld. Just a small world in your hand.

I honestly wouldn't mind if windows took a virtualization approach to their compatibility layer. It seems so hit or miss, getting worse with each major OS update.

@william bowes I actually got it to boot yesterday by running both the launcher and game as admin in XP sp3 compatibility mode, deleting the ini files, and putting my Nvidia driver in performance mode instead of quality. But even then, without any mods, it performs worse than the steam deck with horrible screen tearing. I'm using a Ryzen 7 2700X with an RTX 2070.

Can't figure out console commands, the on-screen keyboard does nothing when I try to bring it up. Any suggestions?

As a kid, I thought the Atari 2600 was incredible.

I looked this up since FO3 crashes for me on windows and I can't play it.

@@romanb5431 this was happening to me on the pc version. for me there's another set of fo3 files in my "games" folder i had to delete. once i did that and just had the files in my steam apps common it worked properly.

This runs perfect until I have a certain conversation in Megaton and then it crashes completely. Tried all sorts to get it past that conversation but nothing worked so far. Weird!

You gotta tweak the options. You can raise the settings, and often it doesn't even use the correct display resolution by default

About fkn time fallout 3 was made portable.

This game is perfect for the Steam Deck, on PC you can play the game without VATS, but on the steam deck VATS can actually be really useful and enjoyable to use, and will help you out tremendously

Seems like the right thumbstick accuracy isn't that amazing but, It sure works!

Did you need to jump through any hoops to get this to work. I tried several years ago when I got the city edition to run it on my PC and it just wouldn't run so I left. This seems to run really well on the deck.

@@asdf3730 oh yeah, I got mine a couple months ago and did a full play through of FO3, no problems running it. Actually it was the least buggy I'd ever seen the game. For what it's worth there was a patch I think in October this year for fo3 that fixed the windows 10 version, something to do with a missing file in current versions of Windows that the Xbox game centre thing needed in order to run it. It should work for you now.

Don't know if you ever tried this on steam deck and doesn't look like op got back to you. I tried on my PC maybe 2 yrs ago and could not get it to work past the load screen no matter what. I'd love to try again if it is working on steam deck but want to know what extra steps are needed as well

By far one of the biggest reasons I bought a deck. I have bought every iteration of the Nintendo Switch but this is a huge W for steam.

Got it for pc a while back but runs 10 percent and 90 doesnt work. Does steam deck have the same problems as windows 10?

Mine will never reach 60fps even on medium preset. I am using proton experimental and the GOG version of the game. Any ideas on how to get 60fps?
