It would use EPICos which would only be capable of running epic games which support linux (none), fortnite wouldn't be supported as it is soooo hard to support. The GUI would also run slower than the games available (still none).

If you lower it to 30fps or lower resolution you can get over 8 hours. I know one guy who fiddled around with the deck's settings got dead cells running over the 8 hours valve said

7W is low. About 6 ish hours of battery life on the deck with Celeste.

Power consumption isn't that high? It seems to hover around 7 or 8W when in gameplay and spikes up to 10W of total system power during the menu. Compare that to more intense tasks like emulating the PS3 and that consumes over 20W of total system power and you can see Celeste is *quite* light in comparison.

Good now I can play 3 out of my 5 or so copies of Celeste I own.

Really loving your videos dude, i certainly can't wait to afford a Steam Deck once is available in my country. Btw, wanna try GOG games sometime? I wanna know how they work there.

@@BossSauce_47 should be able to do it locally with obs just fine as well. I know obs runs fine on the deck, and you can run it in deck mode while being able to move it to background, although not sure how much of a performance hit that'd be.

I know I'm off topic, but I'm so glad to hear (in passing) Flatpak being mentioned as a kind of assumed standard. It's not necessarily my favourite 3rd party packaging system, but at least we're finally settling on something and actually using it!

@@iclonethefirst Well maybe that's okay, maybe we leave it there: we use Snaps for server software and anything that requires any terminal interaction, we use Flatpak for most desktop apps, and we use AppImages for backwards compatibility.

Could you make video about installing games with GOG offline installers on Steam Deck?

Loved watching that game being run at 60fps with 87% battery left and seeing the time remaining fly up to over 5:30 hours. I know it's not a taxing game but still

Nice tutorial! Thank you very much. I could get everything to work except for "baba is you". when i add the "run.sh" file to steam and start it in deck mode it won't start. every other game i downloaded via the itchio app works fine. does anyone have a solution? (it's the native linux build of baba is you and the game starts normally if i run the run.sh via the dolphin explorer) Edit for people that have the same problem: i fixed it! If your gamepath has a space in it steam cannot get the file path right. just add the game normally like in the video, then go to the properties of your non steam game (in steam in desktop mode) and click "browse". add the game executable like you did the first time. Steam will now add the whole filepath and it will work.

I’ll be sure to remember this for when I get my Deck in Q3.

Does this also work with games I download on Itch that only have a Windows version? Or is this only specific to games with a linux version?

For Windows games the itch client uses the wine version you have installed natively on you OS. For Steam you'll select a compatibility layer after adding the game. But I don't think SteamOS has wine installed or even if they have it in their repositories, so it probably won't run from the itch client.

I am curious if you can do the same method with the EPIC games. I know in your other video you ran the EPIC store launcher in Steam but can we do like what you did here and just add the EPIC game exe files straight to Steam? So then I don't have to go into EPIC and I can just boot my games straight up like you did with Celeste?

it dosent work, just tried. it wont let you install because there is no system wine on steamos and the launcher only let you download windows games if there is a system wine detected.

Really interesting, thanks for this! Not having a Steam Deck, in the Steam Launcher the Celeste name was the .bin name, and there was no image. Is it possible to edit this manually to show box art or a poster and the game's proper name?

You just pick the Celeste launch file. Usually called "Celeste".

I'm a bit confused at the skip ahead at 2:00. Trying to get Backpack Hero added, it seems like there's the main folder BackpackHerov16 , unsure if that's supposed to be added but it always takes me inside the folder. The only other possible selectable files are not working. :( Are some games just not able to do this? I haven't used much Itch, it's a game that opens in a browser Unity player
