follow this rules: dont throw away box of steam deck, you can keep carrying bag of charger and microfiber cloth if you will have replacement. There is much of deffected decks, be sure that you will need to make replacement . No one of big YouTubers will say that, Im already replacing 4th Steam Deck. Valve will replace it for free, contact to support.

@@tropicalfruit4571 afaik there's no way to force close an app in Desktop mode by default, but you can add it to the controls for desktop. For that, just go to desktop mode and open up Steam in Big Picture Mode > Settings > Base Configurations > Desktop Configuration. I set it up to where clicking both the sticks swaps between two profiles, the second having Select+Start do Alt-F4. Did it that way so I wouldn't accidentally close something. lol

@@sumomaster5585 It's stable enough to the point where it's nothing out of the ordinary for PC users. Generally speaking it's great but I have a few gripes. -When you download games your Deck loses some performance and in desktop mode it actually is prone to crash your apps as of now. It's not like you're guaranteed to experience that, I only had one big download session so it never really bothers me but yeah spotify, discovery shop while downloading games just died like twice or thrice. In gaming mode it's less of an issue, UI is a bit stuttery at worst during downloads but it's rather stable. -When launching desktop mode without Internet connection the Deck is trying to log you into you account and fetch your controls scheme (or so it seems to be the case) but if you have no Internet you just have to wait for it to fail to use the trackpads or the buttons which is not a biggie but it's annoying as hell. -I had a situation where my game crashed and it also crashed my Deck, it restarted and verified installation. Again, nothing terrible, sort of like getting a blue screen I suppose. The upside is that the restart went really quickly and I just launched the game again within 20s. -I have no idea how to force shutdown an app in desktop mode but that's probably just me being dumb; when it;s unresponsive and blocks me out of doing anything I just restart. -When restarting you go back to gaming mode and have to switch to desktop again but the switch is rather quick. Experience-wise it's neat. Honestly I don't think I had to really learn anything about it to use it. All the UI is intuitive (although when you go through quick access and you scroll through the settings you have to then again hit A to start changing it and I can get used to it, in my brain if it's highlighted I can already change it and leave with B if I need to but it could just be me), when I think "where could that setting be?" I can find it on my own. The gaming side of it is just great with minor issues that will probably get ironed out sooner or later. The controls are SO editable that it hurts my brain how much you can actually personalise your controls, it's insane. The speakers are... so weirdly good for what they are that if you're playing a game where sound isn't the most important they actually do the job. When I use my earphones I think I'm getting better sound out of them than on my phone or PC for that matter, the sound chip might be good. The software side of things tho, majority of my games launch just fine, it's kind of incredible to think it's linux, a bunch of officially unsupported games run out of the box (idk what's the deal with that, maybe they were tested a long time ago) and one of my games didn't run so I spent 8 days trying to figure it out with some linux know how dude on reddit. The desktop mode feels strange but also familiar, I think they were deliberately going for a windows 10 look and honestly... While this is still linux and it's something to get used to, for a somewhat auxiliary mode that is desktop mode it's really fine, if you've touched a computer before it's like re-learning how to ride a bike but this time there's no gravity xD So you seem to know what you're doing but it's not windows so sometimes you just go "huh... so how does that work on linux?". I don't dabble with emulation but from what I've seen it's ridiculously easy to setup and runs mostly fine. People've been kinda poking fun that you can play nintendo games in a better way than you ever could on nintendo hardware. tl;dr for the average Joe it's great albeit not absolutely perfect.

@@gamingonlinux I know nothing is perfect i expected issues, but not as this many. While i am amazed by what it can do, its a bang for the buck, and i praise Valve for giving us a great handheld for a more than a reasonable price, but im having issues with the software ever since i got it. Its been months.. Just to name a few stuff: -Desktop mode crapping out (rarely), games won't start (or won't close) (that worked previously) -i had issues with buttons stopping working in the UI randomly one day i couldn't open Titanfall 2 because i was stuck in an Origin installation loop every time i started it (worked previously). -Since the latest update my SD card doesn't get mounted and i have to mount it in desktop mode and add the library folder again. -Wifi disconnecting randomly. -Had to restore it on factory settings after something possibly corrupted, i couldn't play any online games, when i tried to open webpages like github would look broken or not open at all. Bizarre bug. -Figured out i can brick it by switching to beta update channel, and switching back to stable (which gives you an error, which is expected), and if you factory reset it, it looks for an update on setup but it will always show the error and you can not proceed with the setup. Had to reinstall Steam OS. Some of the stuff above may or may not have been fixed, i have not used it in a while. -Is it just my unit, my crap luck? No idea. -My unit got defective left thumbstick, clicks when going up and down, and after some time the right one started clicking as well when doing a circular motion (i havent even used it for like, 50 hours). Support started RMA without questions tho. -I also got nasty backlight bleed and support says its normal lol. Once again, im not bashing on valve, they've done a lot for linux community. But it is a first generation product that (in my experience) has a lot of flaws that unfortunately made me want to sell it. Either that or put Windows on it and get a worse experience with (probably) less bugs.

Sadly that is not the case and they do not mark it. And some games do WEIRD stuff, like Dead Cells, where offline mode prompts you to start a offline savegame ...because it can't access the cloud save that you dumped god knows how many hours into while offline. Which makes no sense what-so-ever, cloud saves exist to increase accessibility, not to limit it. Just sync it later, like every other game = /uninstall from Deck. Then you got Denuvo on some games, that will lock you out of playing offline after 2 weeks of not starting the specific GAME. Steam does that as well, but for the entire account, not one game, no one pays attention if an invisible to the user DRM token has expired. = i'm not putting ANY Denuvo games on my Deck, just not worth the storage if i can't play it whenever i feel like it. And then there is the obvious multiplayer stuff of course... i got Rocket League working. Actually works pretty good, even that has an offline mode where it will let you play against bots and tutorial training stuff etc. ...would that count as always online? It such a wishy washy topic, i don't think Valve could enforce it for the green checkmark if they wanted to, because where do you even draw the line?

SteamOS 3.3 took them half a year.. this is not really a time span I consider good and even with 3.3 the software is rather old. It could profit from KDE Plasma 5.25 so much. It does not have to be Arch - while based on it - but they do a Linux distribution after all and they should take that serious. Some software is already vulnerable. At least if the dock releases, people might want to actually use the desktop. PS: The game mode feels not finished tbh.. so many issues, it's a major letdown atm.

Remember it's running PC games and thr developers of those never needed to consider their games world be running in the Steam Deck Therefore in assuming it's more thr games hardcoded to need an Internet chintzy causing the issues, and Valve will be looking to add a way ro keto them happy when offline. Something like a local server in thr deck tricking the games into thinking their test pings at launch return correctly.

It also depend on the game so it’s not all steam faults since many games can not be played offline !!! So developers to blame on that too

Well, that's quite a different issue but a valid one.

That's great news. By the time the Steam Deck get released in other parts of Asia, my device would be update up date in the software department.

The entire UI needs to run better IMO. I dont know if its because its a shoddy web-app but man is it a sluggish and frame-dropping mess.

Just got my Deck and haven't had it offline but I remember years ago taking laptops with Steam on them to places without internet access and desktop Steam offline mode was a mess. Game wouldn't always launch, or they would and then error out saying they need to connect to the internet first. It was a gamble if the game would decide to launch or not, and usually was related to when it was last run online. I imagine the same issues were still in the program with Steam Deck. Hopefully they clear them all up, as you say this device will be in Offline Mode far more often.

Offline mode is very important for me. Living in a place with limited wifi is quite a challenge.

Seems that currently if you download a game onto the Steam Deck, take it away from home with you, and try to launch it offline for the first time, it generally won't work. You'd think it would at least notify you of this until they get it fixed. Instead, you just get a blank screen with a loading icon indefinitely.

I’m a sailor, there is no internet connection onboard and MLC just made it mandatory to have internet on board However, internet is expensive and slow limiting it to messaging apps and what not. Am hoping they perfect the offline mode.
