But you guys don’t think that that’s just an excuse because they don’t think Linux is worth the effort market share wise? I bet you that if Linux surpasses MacOS in revenue generated on Steam, or even just sheer number of users, the problem will magically go away. Don’t like to be cynical but that to me sounded like “Corporate Talk”.

@@SuperMario. In this case, it's more like a one way street. Facepunch takes said service of EAC and Facepunch should be able to expect EAC to deliver on their promises. Of course, doesn't mean every tool can do every job. But it shouldn't be the company who buys the tool worry about how the manufacturer gets it a bit more difficult when using said tool. As long as the tool's not being exploited (AKA: Facepunch putting unreasonable stress onto it, or having unreasonable expectations), it should be reliable. Otherwise it says a lot about the quality of the product. Similar to how Tim Sweeny himself isn't confidnet in his acquired tool to bust cheats on Linux. That should be a reason for EAC to put more resources into it, to provide a better service to their customers.

@@gamingonlinux I fully agree with EAC's not enough at the moment to deal with cheaters on Linux. But it seems more like an issue for EAC/EGS to worry about it, rather than Facepunch. If I were in their shoes, I would've rather put bluntly that EAC's quality isn't good enough to deal with cheaters on Linux, than publicly worrying about their resources (which frankly, should then be Epic Games' concern of increasing). A developer should be able to trust their tool partners to handle the job. But I definitely understand why Rust's not gonna flip the switch that easily, sadly.

The thing about a partnership is that it's a two way street. It's EAC's responsibility to bust cheats yes, but it's also Facepunch's responsibility to not get in EAC's way or otherwise make that job harder then it's needs to be. I would imagine there are contracts on both sides that would keep this partnership fair.

They're worried about EAC specifically spreading themselves too thin to properly deal with cheating if they're doing Linux too, on top of Windows where the majority is, that's the point. They don't have the confidence that EAC would be able to keep up with it all to keep their game secure, if EAC then had to go after Rust cheat makers on Linux. It's the same thing literally any developer has to worry about when enabling support for a new platform but some are more willing to take the risk.

Valve does in fact develop their own anti-cheat system and I agree this should be the way forward for them regarding and anti-cheat compatibility issues on Steam Deck. They should make Valve Anti-Cheat better and easier for devs to use so they choose that over other competitors systems who don't support linux and Steam Deck.
