I noticed some stutter in the slider, can you run at 50hz? I may actually use this for watching PAL films/TV on deck. Otherwise, there’s a bunch of games I’ve seen in videos that would work great at 40hz, or even values above!

Honestly, the pace of the updates - and not small hotfixes either, but big OS changes with great new features - is really astounding. Valve is doing one hell of a job fleshing this device out, improving its already impressive potential. Mine just arrived BTW, can't wait to get my hands on it, but I still have a few hours of work to do before I can do that (which is really irritating :D).

to the last part, that you have to press Steam + X in desktop mode to open the keyboard. You can also create a contoller layout in desktop mode, I have assigned my keys so that I simply open the keyboard with X. And otherwise also changed many things that the control on the Linux desktop is better. The controller layout for the Linux desktop mode can be set as follows. Right click on Steam > Settings > Contoller > Desktop settings I think the settings options still come from the old Steam Big Picture mode, but the deck is recognized correctly and you can assign and set everything. Very helpful for the desktop mode.

I have been testing it out and I think I have the whiny fan (it has a somewhat high pitch to the sound). There is a lot of changes done to the fan curve which cannot really be showcased with a short fan test, since it's more about the characteristics of the fan curve. I would argue it's greatly improved. - 3W Emulation (2D, PS1, Dreamcast etc.) the fan pulsates on/off with 10s intervalls, and it doesn't reach any high levels (perhaps 10% of the total rpm). Previously it was silent for a long time and then the fan was brought up to around 40%. That was actually really annoying, and I could never play in bed if my partner tried to sleep next to me. Now If I play at the lowest possible volume (just one step up) I can't hear the fan spinning up during emulation... - 8W, Cyberpunk, FSR Ultra Quality at 800p30fps (3hours playtime). The fan has a much lower average value. Now the fan gets bursts of extra rpm occasionally... these bursts still have lower volume than the average before. But I would avoid playing AAA games in bed with someone trying to sleep next to you (if they are sensitive to noise). - 15W full blast. consider it being a ultrabook fan. audible, but with the speakers turned up to 50% on the Steam Deck you can't hear it. Generally if you want decent battery life you should stay around 6-10W, that will make the fan noise a non-issue in everyday life. Generally it's a massive improvement and now I feel like I can't critique the device about the fan considering how powerful the device is and the handheld form factor. However, I wished the cooling design was made to be completely passive at 3W... that feels quite honestly like a design flaw in my opinion. Especially since GBA games and such use about 1.3W from the APU. It should be able to be passively cooled.

Changing the native refresh is a game changer. It is far preferable to run a 3D application at native refresh, even 30 Hz, over running a 30 FPS cap at 60 Hz. Although you lose some input lag (albeit not nearly as much as using an RTSS/Steam Deck frame limiter), running at native 30 Hz will give you much more consistent frame times.
