Its great seeing these titles boot and playing through the intro sections. Games like fallout 4 however always fall apart frame rate wise once you get deeper into the title. Some game play footage of downtown Boston would be more helpful for judging the actual sustained longer term game play of this title. As it stands this game is so poorly optimized on PC that even with a 3090 and a bunch of other tricks its difficult to sustain a high stable frame rate in downtown Boston. Even if you don't go back and test it for me I'll probably be doing it myself next week (with any luck). Thanks for these videos though, they are awesome!

@@CragScrambler its a 5950x with a 3090 and 64 gigs of ram, I can maintain over 60fps in 4k with the settings cranked in most situations. Even so, the engine uses the CPU to draw shadows in, not the GPU, and its single threaded. The engine can chug down to 45 fps in downtown Boston with out modifications, like shadowboost applied. This is why I advocate in this game to test the deck in down town boston. Because it really doesn't matter what graphical settings you put the system to when the engine is so poorly optimized.

You need a powerful CPU to get good performance. I replaced my 3800X with a 12700K and it doubled my FPS on Fallout 76.

How well does it run with mods?

can you play with mods on the steam deck?

I’ve been running it the normal way, I just reloaded it at 60+ hours of playtime. Fallout 3 however, is disaster for some reason. The only issue I have is with the keyboard, but you rarely use it besides naming your character and the odd weapon here and there. I’m about to start experiencing with mods. One weird thing that happens though, starting at level 1-4, with no extra stats, I was getting 4+ fusion cores in a box at the time. I’ve never seen that. The game would give like 1 Fusion cell, 6 fusion cores, and a few junks. It happens more than once. Also, the Alien only dropped with 87 Alien rounds, way less then the 290-500 range, and I’ve had some other weird things like a drop of 87 railroad spikes, but 1 round of .38 in the same case. Just very weird stuff. I only played this game on console, so I’m not sure what’s happening

yeah 3 and New Vegas are pretty terrible optimized on PC period. I booted it up on my desktop recently and had to change cfg files and install and handful of mods just to make it perform at a smooth 60.

Modding might be an issue with Linux. Are you modding via Steam workshop or Nexus? File modding is different between the two and I'm not familiar enough with Linux's file structure and how WINE handles it.

Not bad. This is just the 1st generation Steam Deck, so I expect the inevitable Steam Deck 2, along with ever increasingly powerful Handheld Gaming Pc competition, will run FO4 at 60fps 1080 high by the time it comes out. I'd very much make Handheld PCs my one and only gaming device...as well as possibly my only desktop PCs by then.

I can't get the Steam Deck keyboard to enter text on the "Registration Form" at the start of the game. I call up the Steam keyboard, but the text I enter doesn't show up on the "Name" screen. So I can't play the game. Any hints on how to get the text to register? Playing on a Steam Deck, just out of the box. I got it to simply play games without a lot of fuss, aside from setting performance settings.

Anyone experience missing main dialog sound? Only hear background fx and some dialog. I've tried everything and nothing seems to be working.
