Hey I have a question I see that you do your stuff on the steam deck I only recently got my 512 GB steam deck and I'm still trying to figure out the operation system Linux it's slightly difficult because I'm simply just trying to download Minecraft directly and I'm struggling so hard to try to find the files to put them on my steam account to play Minecraft specifically trying to play bedrock Minecraft no offense Java players! Is there any way you can do a favor to a fan and show me how to do bedrock Minecraft downloaded onto the steam deck step-by-step every bit of the way?

@@gamingonlinux Great Videos friend. your faster than Valve telling me the dock is ready! As soon as I saw your upload, I jumped to place the order. Would this dock also include the charger? Does JSAUX come with one? $89 is high, but a price for "first party". Also ChaosVania, perhaps tighter supply chain than JSAUX. Given the track record for backdoors, I'm hesitant for buying. It doesn't mean the SD dock doesn't have supply components that are not of risk, just likely lower.

They could have made the dock cheaper, but honestly I think the price is right for a first party dock. It allows them to soak up some margins and not alienate other device manufacturers who are considering their own docks. It leaves plenty of room for great and cheap alternatives that are still profitable, hopefully leading to a rich 3rd party ecosystem for the deck and it's future versions.

The dock isn't that expensive if you consider that most USB-C docks only offer a pair of 3.0 USB-A ports and only one HDMI 1.4 port. Valve had to make something that can fully exploit the Deck's USB-C 3.2 port. Also consider there is a PSU included and most USB 3.2 docks are just as expensive with less features, and without an included PSU. They could have made a dock just like the Jsaux one, but that would be the point if there's one already ?

Also everyone is gonna play on an Xbox/Dualsense/DS4 controller, AND you can connect a keyboard/mouse. Valve is being smarter with their tech now and releasin a new weird controller isnt a smart idea.

The advantage to having a steamcontroller that matches the steamdeck layout is that you can maintain the same control schema between handheld and couch gaming. There isn't another controller on the market that matches its inputs so without one, you either have to juggle control mappings for games that you utilize them in, or you have to universally map to the lowest common denominator which leaves off a lot of functionality.

@@TheAkashicTraveller yeah thats probably why they had thousands of them to trash at 10 bucks a piece. I have one, since Im always curious of new controllers, and nah, the form factor is terrible for anythin but big hands, the feel is slippery, and the control scheme completely unnatural (unless you're already into weird control schemes). Again, I know there are fans, but sayin everyone who tried loved it is, frankly, laughable. That'd mean the controller had great reviews everywhere and no one bought it lol

The Steam Controller had two big problems: 1. The build quality was poor. I have one and it feels cheap, the buttons are a bit mushy. The ergonomics leave something to be desired as well. 2. Only one thumbstick. The touchpad simply can't replace a traditional thumbstick, even with the fancy haptics they put into it. The Steam Deck shows that Valve learned their lesson on both of these points. The build quality is fantastic with good ergonomics, and there are two thumbsticks in addition to the touchpads. If they made a Steam Controller 2 using the same layout as the Deck (two thumbsticks, two touchpads, the four paddles on the back, etc), I think it would be very successful.

It's definitely pricey, but I think the price is justifiable. The upgraded JSAUX dock is $50 but doesn't include a charger, which is an additional $20, bringing your total up to $70 for an equivalent package from JSAUX. So for the extra $20 more than the $70 JSAUX combo, you get USB 3.1 (compared to USB 3.0 on the JSAUX dock) and DisplayPort 1.4 in addition to HDMI 2.0. I guess each person will just have to decide whether the faster USB and the inclusion of DisplayPort are worth $20. I've been spending a lot of money recently (between buying the 256GB Deck itself and picking up a 512GB microSD card), so I might wait a few weeks. I was initially planning on picking up the JSAUX dock and an extra charger, but I'm willing to shell out the extra $20, especially since Valve's model has DisplayPort. Oh, and I agree about the Steam Controller! I would definitely add that to my Deck setup if Valve releases one!

Let's fire the $20 premium over the combo you mentioned, its a Valve product! There is product support from Valve themselves, its a first party solution with their warranty and quality control, there are inherent benefits to the product so its not just a $20 cash grab, etc. Lastly, look at what Valve is offering in terms of replacement parts with ifixit. What other company is willing to offer that level of product support? In this respect, I would much rather support Valve than some random brand off of Amazon. Edit: forgot to mention, for the combo, you have to deal with one or more companies' customer service for issues - big hassle trying to troubleshoot issues.

Was going to say the same thing. Some are complaining about the price but the power supply makes it much less of a hit. You can get other hubs and docks cheaper, but when you add on the price of having to buy another power supply, which most docks and hubs don't include, it comes out to about this same price. My only concern is that they said they are going to ship the same 45w power supply with the dock and I worry about if the overhead of the dock and any peripherals is too high, will it cause the deck to discharge while you play because the PS can't keep up with everything. Also, yes please to the Steam Controller 2. I want one to play on my main PC so I don't have to rewire my brain to the different control scheme every time I play a game on it that I have been playing on the Steam Deck. Ideally, the same layout and inputs as the steam deck. Running the same steam input with modal options.. radial menus on track pads.. etc.

How about Valve shouldn't have to focus on cases for 3rd party cases, you can put a powerbank in the back right now, and what's the point of a screen in a case? You lose the effectiveness of the said case for both the Steam Deck and the hypothetical screen and the screen can be barely bigger than what the Steam Deck offers. Gotta keep your expectations realistic.

@@JohnSmith-sk7cg Yes, I think you're probably right. I just would like to get some word from Steam/Valve that this is an intended possibility. I'd hate to invest money in to something like that and then have it be broken with future updates all the time or something like that. Somewhat in the same vein, what are these USB ports intended for? Have they ever shared any reasoning as to why they put 3 USB ports in the dock? I mean, I know there are lots of things you can do with them in desktop mode, as you could with any PC, but I'm wondering what they might have had in mind when making the dock.

Though I obviously can't confirm this 100%, but you should be able to do that. The dock is a normal USB dock and the Deck is a Linux computer. Both are capable of doing this and it's been demonstrated that it gracefully handles SD additions.

Emulation has been made extremely easy with Emudeck, and will likely swiftly improve still. Just downloading Emudeck and transferring roms is all that really needs to be done. Of course there is more you CAN do, but it's very simple if you want to install and play.

I just want to highlight some things that people are getting wrong! 1.) USB 3.0 & USB 3.1 are IDENTICAL! They are both 5Gbps ports! 2.) Other docks do offer HDMI 2.0 & DisplayPort 1.4 simultaneously! 3.) At the price Valve are charging you can find arguably better options for a lower price, Valve just have the upperhand in regards to supporting their Dock with post-launch updates! Do not think that USB 3.1 is any faster than USB 3.0, it never has been, and, never will be!

There's now also "USB 3.2 Gen 1x1" which is yet again the 5 Gbps USB 3.0, just renamed. It's really silly. BUT the deck does support Gen 2, which is 10 Gbps, and Valve's dock doesn't.

Most USB-C docks will work fine. Especially after the latest updates. The pricing is disappointing to be honest. For 59 euros with VAT + shipping? Sure. 99 euros? Nah. I will get a similar Jsaux dock for 62 euros. One USB-A and DP are not enough to justify a 37 euro difference.

£80 is pricey when you consider that you can get hubs with USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10 Gbps ports) for that kind of price from fairly well known brands. It's a little disappointing the official dock didn't have them. If you're using an external SSD when docked (for booting Windows, for example) some third-party hubs will have far better performance.

I wish there was a dock for the steam deck that has a usb-c displayport connection, which would allow me to connect my portable monitor and keep it charged with a single cable. I think for that price, I'll pass on the docking station and see if I can find something more suitable for my needs.

with hdmi + displayport 1.4 you have alternatives, but not cheaper alternatives, given that you want all of that video out goodness. if you add the extra psu the price is really ok, even at 99 eur.

Honestly my jaw dropped when I saw the price... 100 euros... I earn like 700 a month dude, why you gotta be like this. I guess this is their way to get some nice sales margins since the Decks are probably just above breaking even (or the 64GB being under breaking even). I will say though that when I was looking at some proper nice alternatives the prices do look similar; I thought that if I am to pay this much I might as well buy 1st party. I was expecting 60, 70 euros at the very most, would have been a fine price but this... this just hurts. I hope that their dock is actually a little better than the competition so that I can feel like I chose the best option. Though JSAUX with international shipping would probably come out to the same price so... Why not get an original one?

I was guessing around $65. However, it is a first party device with an additional power supply, so price is reasonable. Saying that, I'll be getting a third party dock now that the official one has been revealed. I don't see myself using it much, but it would be nice to have.

I've just ordered the official docking station. Yes, it's a bit expensive, but I'm confident it will work really well. While I already have an Anker dock, I only ever use it to install stuff in desktop mode. When I get the official dock, I'm planning to use it to play the games that have small text for the Steam Deck screen, as well as the games that simply work better with a mouse and keyboard. And I'm also hoping that they eventually release Steam Controller V2. It's still my favourite controller ever, and I bet Valve's experience with Steam Deck can help them create an even better version of Steam Controller.

Totally agree with the Steam Controller 2 ... If they're unsure about the real demand for it, they totally can make a reservation process so they're not going to under/over produce units, it's a greener and cost-effective approach
