Yes, but isn't Proton an emulation / compatibility layer for Windows games on Linux. So technically it isn't Linux native... and game publishers aren't rushing to build Linux native version either.

3 years later... Just so you're made aware, do not ever append emulator to compatibility layer, someone may come on and roast you for it! Yes, a compatibility layer such as Proton does translate the system calls, but I think it goes deeper than just that. Don't forget, the installation procedure is rather important. Linux doesn't use the same directories and uses no folders what-so-ever in the standard partition format (Ext), so it also constructs the directories to 'simulate' how it would be on Windows. Maybe someone will correct me on that last bit? Quite a lot of Windows games are running better on Linux, the only real obstacle is the anti-cheat, which is a darn cheek on the developers side!

@Pavel Alexandru I only wrote it because the word "technically" was spelled. And technically proton is not an emulation. But maybe I get the word "technically" wrong because I'm not a native English speaker. I didn't mean then to argue about whether we should use the word emulation or not. However, the fact is that the word emulation can be a bit misleading, because it can be associated with a fairly large loss of performance, which is not necessarily true for example in the case of the proton and steam deck. But also because it is not emulation there can be other bugs and not working stuffs

Tehnically wine is not emulator. Wine translates systemcalls or something like that

They've done a fantastic job! Microsoft has been putting the gaming community down for many years now to a point that we are pretty much years behind game development! To be honest, I think Nvidia made a big mistake dropping their support for OpenGL in favour of DirectX over 20 years ago!
