Why would he ever do that? Not only was he sent this unit by Valve specifically but the price you're offering him isn't even worth giving up possibly the only Deck he has.

Steam Deck supports multi-touch but the game has to have touchscreen support for it to work. If the game doesn't have that then it just acts like a mouse.

I suspect the answer is "Not yet - But very soon!". It's actually possible to see a bit behind the curtain on Steam and see what test branches game devs are uploading to Steam. And we've already seen that EA created a hidden test branch of their game to test Steam Deck compatibility, and we've seen code patches going into Proton updating it to fix Apex Legends related bugs too. So it seems like it's all but a given now that Apex Legends will probably work after EA has finished testing and working with Valve and the Proton devs, and put out an update to make it happen. There's no timeframe on this, but assume there's no major issues, I would say probably would happen before most people will get their hands on a Deck.

I don't think it would be that good. Touchscreen is always clunky imprecise and slow, you never see what you're doing since your finger is in the way and the ergonomics of the device don't really support it. I'd use right touchpad and gyro as a mouse and left touchpad for a selection of shortcuts. I haven't held the device yet and I won't for a while but I think a 4x4 touch menu would fit comfortably on the left touchpad, if not you could do a 3x3 and have nested menu under it, or just use a modifier like the a grip button to change that out for a different 3x3 menu.

@@SnowTerebi Wow, thanks for the thorough testing. Hopefully the touchscreen gets a little more focus on the Steam Deck 2 at some point. For osu there's actually 2-key keyboards that can be used, which would make for a pretty portable setup. Probably something I'll look into when I get the Deck.

@@remulaevergaze5342 Tried Spin Rhythm with the touchpads which is actually not bad at all. OSU however is a whole different story. First of all, if you are running OSU in the "Steam Mode", I can't figure out how to get the touchscreen to work at all. In the "Desktop Mode", the touchscreen "almost" works, but there seems to be some input issue. It looks like when you tap the touchscreen, OSU will register it as you clicked at the original position first, then move over the cursor, which renders it pretty much useless, and I haven't figured out how to make it work. However, I did get it to somewhat working by assigning touching the touchpad as an M2 click (M1 is the touchscreen for my setup), and I can just use one hand to sort of drag the cursor around, meanwhile using the other hand to tap on the touchpad (tap, not actually clicking it because that feels horrible). But there is another issue: for me, it feels like there is some delay when you drag the cursor around. And you can sort of seeing it in this video, too. When he is dragging the control handles for the first game, it looks like the handle has a bit of delay after he drags his finger on the screen. I'm not sure how this issue can be improved, but tapping on the touchscreen seems to be responsive enough, so really have no idea why the dragging seems to have some delay.

@War on Winter I think capacitance base touch screen tech is quite refined now that i would have expected the decks screen to be better. I can't comment on apple devices as I'm an android user but they have never give me the perception of a laggy interface. not sure if this is a software thing or to do with the hardware. do you notice a lag to the cursor tracking. for example in desktop mode?
