I put in a second reservation. When researching storage and dual boot options, I decided I could just retire my laptop and buy a second one for a windows install. I have a 512 model with steam os and it's perfect as is. I just didn't want to partition the device and then need to deal with Windows, game pass, the new Sony launcher etc all on the same storage device. It's possible to own a steamdeck, love it A LOT and still be excited for an email 🤣

Steam deck is easily the best handheld device ever and a potential revolution for the pc gaming market. After logging in to steam once you are basically good to go in seconds after booting up the device (or exiting sleep mode) which feels like we're finally getting a pc console experience. Performance is uuunbelievable as well :D

It was a painful wait for those who ordered last year. I have my 256GB model now and it is a superb piece of hardware. But yeah, recently, the pre-orders are pretty much going through straight away now, in comparison to what was going on at the beginning of the year. A clear sign that things have settled down for Valve & they are shipping massive numbers. Steam Deck is obviously a runaway success for Valve & the support is pretty much second to none right now. there seems to be quality of life updates every single week for the device & that's unprecedented. Nintendo - take note. This is how you support your device.

So I sillily descended to wait till ied saved the money before putting in my reservation (beginning of June I think maybe end of May) I’m set for a Oct to Dec timeframe I’m just hoping it’s more Oct than Dec. I’m disabled and as time is going on I’m spending more and more time in my bed when I’m not busy been a career for my even more disabled mum (hers are life threatening while mine is mainly just pain 24/7 and fatigue) I used to be a massive gamer that at one time spent something like 53 hours a week on just wow when it was at its height, now I’m lucky if I feel up to sitting at my desk for an hour every few days, so I’m quite looking forward to getting hold of a deck as while I spend quite a lot of time in my bed sleeping is something I can only do when my back is feeling kind so having my game library back while I’m laying there wishing I could sleep will be fantastic.

So about the steam deck 2 I’m really hoping it’s just a bunch of upgrades to the parts so that people with the first gen decks can if they want swap out the upgraded parts with their old parts, I mean after all this is one of the best things about PCs you can upgrade this bit here and that bit there, do the graphics card this month then save up for a larger SSD or faster RAM. I’ll be quite disappointed if the Deck 2 is just sold as a whole new system you have to get from the ground up like consoles it’s one of the main reasons I’m reluctant to buy consoles but at least the deck 2 won’t have that other console drawback of well now you need to rebuy all your old games so they run on this new system, a pc game should run on almost any pc (unless it’s really old then it will need software to lie to it about how powerful modern PCs are so the game stops throwing a hiffy fit)
