The one game I wanted to work on linux that I couldn't get to work, linux game compatability gets better every day

It always happens. New fixes break things that have always worked. Reverting to an older version of Proton usually fixes the simple things.

@@mobilechaosyt uh no. Proton is from Valve. GE-Proton is a fork, and pulls in patches from the community and updates other parts quicker but has none of the QA that the official Proton has.

In this case it's not an older version of Proton, but GE-Proton (back when it was Proton-GE), so it was never working in official Proton for the Xbox screen.

I have been unable to get this to work, I previously followed some guides to log in blindly, so I’m wondering if that is causing problems? I have been playing this off of a windows install on deck, would really love to switch to Linux though as it’s currently my only game I switch to windows for. With proton ge version listed I still see the black screen where the login should be, unsure what I should try next. Double checked all of your steps.

@@Vintarum it did the same for me. But it somehow went through after I tried a couple different versions of Proton and then at last put it back to the version in the video. Restarted the game and it popped up. Hope it works! Just fiddle with it a little

Yea didnt work for me as well. I normally log in the blind way. Sucks that way have to get keyboard and mouse and or stream it to my desktop this proton way would have been really nice

@@gamingonlinux Yeah, I can't figure out a cause either, I disabled cloud sync for the game, uninstalled, reinstalled, no change though. Out of ideas on what else to try.

Unsure what the cause would be, as it worked without issues here with my steps.

I have not played this but it rimandmy old movie that has a Meshing that makes humans small if remember correctly in that movie those try to get back in the order to return Buck in normal size but I don't remember the name of this movie

I wish this video was out before I refunded the game during the autumn sale. There's always next time and who knows, maybe I won't need to do this trick by then.

The login part doesn't work for me. The game was updated yesterday however so that may be why :(

The Xbox login didn't work but the game was just updated so maybe that broke it. Thanks for the first tip that made it work but I'm stuck on offline single player only 😢

With the latest Grounded update (1.1) I was able to boot up single player without needing to go to desktop. Haven’t tried multiplayer yet. Performance is still pretty bad though.

Performance is better when you run the Game on the steamdeck with Windows. I Set my Game to medium graphics and gar settings to quality and i get 50-60fps.

Even with this version can't see login windows. :-/

Tried it just now on the 512GB version: after downloading (and activating) 6.21-GE-2 and starting the game while still in desktop mode, [Steam] button + X opens the steam overlay instead of the onscreen keyboard and I did not yet find a combo that opens the keyboard. Going back into Deck mode and starting the game still shows an empty login screen.Only after rebooting the Deck did the Deck mode show the login window content. Thx for the pointer LinuxDude =D

3 Jan 2023, as of today these steps work to log in. Must have wireless or wired keyboard. Don’t use steam pop up keyboard. Start Grounded, At the press any button screen use your keyboard it ensure the keyboard is connected and working. Xbox Login Screen comes up. Screen in box is black. Press (tap) with finger the bottom middle spot in the box on the steam deck screen till you see color change. Type in username via. The wireless keyboard (you don’t see anything on the screen). Press tab 3 times. Then hit enter. Screen is still blank white, you see no change. Type in the password (you don’t see anything on the screen). Press tab 3 times. Then hit enter. You will see a quick view of the screen with “logging in” at the bottom then screen in box turns black again. You are logged onto Xbox network. Press (tap) the bottom middle spot in the box on the steam deck screen till screen changes back to main screen Now using Steam deck controls, select Multi Player, you will see the “you must log in to ….” warning screen, click OK. You might see the “Failed to Query….” warning screen, click OK. You will see a quick view of the screen with “logging in” at the bottom then screen (again) You should now see a “Log Out bottom (selection) at the bottom right of your screen and your Xbox user ID at the top right of your screen. Select Multi Player (again), play, set up Multi Player as you would on a normal system.

Unfortunately that did not work for me. With the old proton ge version it just doesn't start. Instead, I just clicked in the white space where the cursor changes to show text, entered my email and hit enter. The i did the same thing with my password and looked around with the mouse pointer in the bottom area and clicked when the hand appeared. Jank af, bit it worked.

Did not work for online, offline boots up regular with no problem

I got online but not with this bogus video, type it in on the blank login screen... Click the screen at the bottom to turn black screen white, type username, push tab,tab,tab,enter. Then type password, tab, tab, enter, tab enter No bullshit it works

it worked, the game launches now. however, the login is still invisible.

january 4. If you switch between different protons versions and open the app then set the proton version 6.21-ge-2 then open the app again after that you will see the xbox log in as in the vido

After doing this on two different steam Deck's, I've found a solution if it's still showing the login screen as blank. Under the compatibility option, before selecting and launching with 6.21-GE-2, try selecting at least 4 different versions of proton under compatibility without launching the game, simply select a random version, press back, select a different one, and repeat before finally selecting 6.3-8, launch the game, exit the application at the login screen, now select 6.21-GE-2 and it should work

This absolutely worked for me. Didn’t at first and I noticed the note of 6.3-8. I think the rest is placebo and the temporary loading with 6.3-8 is the real fix.

i literally just installed it on my steam deck and hit play and it loaded right up. no xbox log in but i just want to play single player anyways. the game is still choppy at times so ill have to fiddle with the settings but seems to run ok for me

1-17-2023... It did not work for me either... so I tried as advised in the comments and sure enough... for some reason, after picking 4 or 5 different proton versions and exiting at the login screen, I switched back to 6.21 and it worked.

For anyone got issues with the second fix, delete the proton files for the game under dev options then load the game in proton experimental close it then open it in proton GE6.21-2GE, and it would show the login window took me two attempts, don't forget to go back to proton experimental.

My screen isn't blank the problem is when you log in it doesn't keep you logged in it goes back to you being offline.

so fully yoked update just happened i dont have the actual ip through steam i used fitgirl and it would crash on load but as you said simply renaming the wrapper.ddl gave me immediate access to the fitgirl copy still no internet access tho but who needs friends anyway?? thats what ANTS ARE FOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So i just had it where i couldn't type? But switching proton helped, ty!
