Virtual menu is actually unreal, it literally adds like 40 buttons to your thumbs... Awesome.

Yep, that's a game changer right there, and Valve should add that to the desktop Steam app. There are many games that I would love to put many buttons to a redial wheel, it would make those games that have too many button configurations much better and I have to say, I am surprised this hasn't been done a long time ago. This would be ideal for me as I would set it to pop up on my mouse with the button just under the scroll wheel button and have 6-10 different options of buttons presses in there, that would help a lot on those complex games that happen too many buttons.

@@Tantive well exactly, I'm pretty sure you can add 20 to a radial menu and now you can toggle an alternative menu when pressing another button so essentially hundreds of buttons.

Wow this is great to know cause i just ordered my steam deck yesterday and should arrive in 5 days thanks a lot Liam really do appreciate this but did you know that there’s a plug-in that enables you to customise your deck and give a nice oled display I recommend checking out themes on deck wizards page really great 😁😁😁😁😁

Makes sense, Steam Deck itself was a little half baked on release (though still incredible) and at the point where it's actually getting in many other hands, you don't want half baked solutions. I'm also guessing they are trying to make their own dock just perfect software and hardware wise. Kind of infuriating to not have the dock yet but if the alternative is 40 dollars plus international shipping I'd rather wait for the official one.

Last time I tried to use it my USB to HDMI didn't work. It just made a message appear on screen that made it sound like it was trying to send the audio through the adapter.

@@ziggyzoggin But you would agree that you can't JUST make it for the Steam Deck, unless you are Valve and are making Aputure Desk Job. You would need to blend it nicely and have options for other popular controllers and, of couse, mouse+keyboard. With that being said, yeah, would be really cool to see games that include the extra functionality of the deck. I've heard that Valve is opened to the devs, offering all sorts of resources to make games work (I don't know, not a dev, just what I've heard)

Would love to see a native auto connect for external drives in game mode. Plus having issues with external nvme drive to usbc taking forever to initialize a download.

Hardly anything groundbreaking, small incremental bug fixes, they need to concentrate on fixes such as downloading games / updates with screen off etc

Hard disagree, these were very needed fixes whereas being able to turn off the screen is just a convenience. It'll come too, but getting inputs right is first.

I liked having the option of going into desktop mode to get the old configurator when needed.

It's the only way I've been able to setup mouse position commands because the new configurator just asks for X&Y coordinates with no idea of the thresholds. The desktop version lets you just place your mouse where you wanted it to snap to and it saves it.

that docked mode update is huge for me. my tv is 4k and the UI lags a lot when in 4k, I've been having to switch to desktop mode to get 1080p output

The external Monitor improvments going in the right direction. The last missing Thing is screen rotate in game Mode. I have a 1440p Monitor that is upside down. I want to use the Monitor in game Mode and to rotate the screen 180 degree. I hope they will Adress this in the near future.

@@-Sangral- because there is no vesa mount. The only way for my setup is to hang it upside down. Diffucult to explain unless you see it. And seriuosly, why not have the option? Its called Feature for convenience. If you dont need this option, doesnt mean others would appriciate it.

Huh, weird thing I just noticed. If you edit the controller on desktop mode by going through Steam -> Settings -> Controller you still get the BPM gamepad configurator. The new one pops up if you open the editor from the game page.

One is for the overall controller config that they haven’t updated, they’ve only changed it for per game controller config

Mine updated on start up this time (mostly I check for updates manually) so maybe yours did too and you just didn't notice? Check the build version and compare it with the newest one. I can check the build number for you if you can't find it online.

about screenshots: I had like 3 screenshots taken before I set my screenshot folder to /home/deck/Pictures/Screenshots that I moved manually, but they appear to be broken in steam. Did I miss some detail there? Should I just delete them?

I wish they would add the ability to not automatically download workshop items onto deck, I don’t like having a lot of space took up by an item I won’t use on deck but don’t want to have to go through the hassle of unsubscribing and re subscribing every time I play my pc or deck

Fsr2 need motion vectors from game engine. It cannot just be added by valve.

Yep that is correct. A couple of games I play has fsr 2.0 so I just use that instead of the buit in fsr 1.

FSR 2.0 requires the game devs to add it. It can't be just used on top of the screen, which is all the FSR 1.0 mode does. This does mean, if your game supports FSR 2, it should just work.

After new updates as of sep. 23rd, it takes a very long time for my deck to turn on. It makes the turn on beep 2 times, and i cant "restart" it it just hangs, if i "shut down" it hangs, if i want it docked i have to start it from off with it pluged into tv or it will black screen. It did this befor , about 5 months ago for a update for beta, and dock resolutions...

Hmm, I set my deck release channel to Preview, rebooted, it updated, and in the settings there is no Resolution drop down box when and external display is connected or otherwise. Is there a particular build number I should be looking for?

They've been working with the biggest anti cheat devs, and some bigger game devs that use modified versions of various anti-cheats. So far I think easy anti-cheat and battleye (not sure if in all games or just selected ones) have been made work on the Deck, and from selected games I know of Apex Legends (though I think it might be easy anti cheat based) got fixed a long while ago, and whatever Halo is using also works. It's kind of a long way to go because anti-cheat developers are asked to do their shit work on Linux for the first time in forever but somehow they try to do that actually. Problem are the proprietary anti-cheats but Valve is pretty active on this front to various degrees of success. Alternatively you can probably make a virtual machine on your Deck but that's... well... annoying and idk how well it would work on the Deck. OR Have an SD card with windows on it. Windows is kinda crap compared to SteamOS on the Deck, and is heavier, and so on but it's an option.

The big update in this for me was the proper mouse support in GameScope. Previously anytime an external mouse would control the camera, I'd have to play those games under Desktop Mode for the camera to not go crazy.

I think they wouldn't let you use it if they knew it could brick your system. These might crash, especially preview but from what I've seen they run well.

Yes I can now choose 1080p@120hz from display settings.... BUT I cannot choose 120hz from game properties. It allows you to only choose max resolution without the refresh range. It would be useful to select 120Hz because you can play at 40 fps then flawlessly

Game compatibility is either down to game developers to make a Linux version, fix issues with Proton compatibility in their Windows version or down to Valve to fix in Proton which is of course an entirely different set of people. You don’t get the same people working on the OS as you do Proton.

Will they ever fix downloads. A) wifi speed aren't great and I've tried many supposed fixes and B) they should at least allow you to download with the screen off when the SD is charging. I hate having to keep my screen on so my downloads complete.

Under "os update channel " mine shows more options: - Stable - Release Candidate - Beta - Beta Candidate - Main Currently on "Main" whatever that means and is version 3.4
