I remember when UT 2003 came out and it shipped with Linux support. That was such a great moment. Fast forward 20 years and Epic is such a different company. Making piss poor fremium games, abandoning linux, not playing well with other companies, and giving us another launcher no one wants.

It's a really good strategy that Valve is doing developing the Deck & an echo system (😑esp. this time around with the hardware support), but i feel like they need to do more, when they can. ...Reducing platform price may overall be unreasonably or doable right now. .. Although I do have a feeling that they might be already working on this, but maybe & hopefully they can do something like updating, make it more available & market the Source Engine to make it more competitive with the Unreal engine (although It's a lot of work). & They may have to start acquiring exclusive themselves, orrrr START MAKING GAME AGAIN, more games than Half-life Alyx.

Fortnite is not Piss-poor, you're just over-exposed to it's marketing. Linux is not abandoned; they support EAC via Proton and support UE4/5 Linux builds. Really, the only thing they don't do is support Linux via EGS. They play rather well with companies, famously so actually, so i'm unsure what this references to be honest. If you don't like EGS, fine, just don't equate your experience to what you assume everyone thinks. YOU may not like EGS, i'm indifferent to it. It needs improvements, but I don't find it detrimental to have it installed.

The switch version runs like dog crap. Every competitor runs at like 10fps around you and navigating menus is sluggish as hell. Textures on outfits are also incredibly low res... Honestly I hope they add Linux support for the Deck, it's an awesome, open console. I don't really want to install windows on it or use workarounds.

I was really frustrated when Metro Exodus was removed from Steam and was one year epic store exclusive, eventhough they have an own engine running perfectly on linux. Same happens to other games, eventhough they have linux nativ builds...if you buy the game on epic store, you’ve no chance of getting the nativ linux version. My recommendation: Do not touch epic store at all, even if the game titles are currently free2play...it all comes with a price tag and you'll pay it later on, when you own a steam deck or future devices running linux. Epic ruined so much games for us linux gamers, that I'm not looking into epic games any more.

If you want to support companys like epic then go ahead and play fortnite and throw more money on there behaviour. Your recommendation makes no sense, I don't understand why Fall Guys going free is a bad thing, especially considering it was already monetized like a free to play game anyway with the paid cosmetics. You should be more worried about the multiplayer servers for the game closing forever than Epic removing a dll for some reason even though I've never heard of that happening before. Also I'm pretty sure Metro Exodus can be played on a Steam Deck and Linux now just fine via proton

Wow. so much to unpack here. I'm not sure how Epic having UE4/5 correlates to Metro Exodus being EGS exclusive..... EGS doesn't run natively on Linux, that's why they don't offer Linux game builds. There is no price tag to pay. This is such baffling logic. This is straight up FUD. Epic are not ruining anything for you, and worked with Valve to get EAC working. For a company that apparently hates linux, they seem to be doing an awful lot that isn't detrimental to Linux Gaming.

SMITE also put the EAC binary in the wrong place for quite a long time; it took Hi rez two months to fix it. I don't think that's evidence of very much, it just meant they didn't test it on Proton properly. As for them removing the binary, I don't think that'll happen, not anytime soon at least. I may be wrong there, but I do try to keep my hopes up, rather than constantly see the situation as glass half empty. On a slightly unrelated note; I called it going F2P months ago when chatting to friends who play it. It's set up in that kind of way, and I saw the writing on the wall.

While more and more Playstation, Xbox and even some Nintendo exclusives are coming to Steam, Epic Games is bringing exclusivity to the PC platform. In the past, you could wait for an eventual Steam release down the line (unless Epic exclusivity kills the bloody company like Three Fields Entertainment), now they are buying games for their service. Isn’t the next saints row an epic store exclusive, RIP Volition.

Dang, and I just bought Fall Guys on a recent sale because it started working on Linux. Hopefully, Epic just leaves it alone so the Steam Linux users can still play, but time will tell. I am not a fan of how Epic runs as a company, and though it might be spiteful, I make sure to collect all of the free games they give out every week, just so it cost's them money. I will probably never play more than 1% of the free games, but they have to pay for them regardless. I think I remember seeing something along the lines of Epic paid out 11 Million for the games they gave away, and I like to know that I had a part in costing them that money. I know people don't like they Steam revenue cut, but companies do need to start adopting more Valve like, consumer oriented, traits. Watching how Valve has been handling the Steam Deck from the beginning, you can see that they are a game company, made up of gamers, that makes cool things for other gamers. I love that most of their innovation came from them thinking something would be cool, then building it, then releasing it FOR FREE to anyone who uses their platform. I am thinking things like their software services including Steam Remote Play and Remote Play Together, Steam Input, and many others.

I hate exclusivity... like just let us buy and play wherever, they still get money one way or another... I do get it though, console exclusivity is to ensure hardware sales, and epic exclusivity is to make it so they end up getting all the money instead of people buying on steam and epic getting a cut. Just wish things were more open so you could own any console, any pc, and any store front and buy all of your games through the way you want to.

This is probably overall a good move for this game. I happily bought it at launch and played it everyday with friends for 2 months. But then none of us looked back. Going free to play, cross play etc will probably really help the game continue. Even if it's not on steam and no longer going to work with steam deck.
