The Linux port looks good to me. The FPS count doesn't really matters if the game is playable. I'm just hoping for Vulkan to level the playing field.

madjunir Adding Vulkan support will be a good thing. That will certainly reduce the time invested in porting it to different platforms.

+Apurv Jyotirmay Yeah hoping that for upcoming titles and engines. Tomb raider 2015 added dx12 , so once they begin the porting, they'll probably also add Vulkan (or even maybe drop dx12 if its just duplicate work)

i don't care about the FPS, because that we can solve with an better hardware, but whats wrong with the colors here? also, is the graphics on "ultra" or what? the hair simulation is off as i can see..

You shouldn't need better hardware than i7 with gtx 980ti just to play tomb raider ..

Isn't Ubuntu 16.0 + Latest Nvidia Drivers pushing out better average FPS than Linux Mint recently? This comparison is already obsolete.

+Joroshira This is using the most up to date Nvidia drivers available. Other packages really don't make much difference. Phoronix benchmarks on older open source titles don't mean much compared with these much more demanding games. As for the compositor, Cinnamon's can be easily turned off for fullscreen applications, my testing showed little to no impact on performance.

+Gaming On Linux I really like Linux Mint, but its based on older versions of Ubuntu. I'm not saying Ubuntu is better, I'm saying RIGHT NOW Ubuntu is the best distro for high-end Linux games when it comes to average FPS. Also unlike Ubuntu, the Cinnamon compositor in exclusive fullscreen still takes a hit on average FPS on games whereas the compositor disables when the game uses exclusive fullscreen on Ubuntu. Also the recent Nvidia drivers run alot better on Linux than the older ones on native applications. http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=nv-win10-ubuntu1604&num=3

+Joroshira It is the latest version of Mint available. Not everyone uses Ubuntu :). Also, do you have sources to back that up? Curious.

Good to know this channel's content isn't biased. Pretty sure lots of Linux channels would switch the Linux and Windows labels.

Just to clarify - OpenGL is no slower or worse then DirectX. It can be optimized to the same speed at the same graphics level. It's just the fact that the game developers won't spend as much time optimizing game's graphics for Linux as they do for Windows because Windows is higher priority due to larger userbase. If the game was initially made in OpenGL for all the platforms, we'd see 200+ FPS on both sides(maybe even more on Linux side because most Linux distros are lighter and use less computer resources than Windows 10).

OpenGL has been in development for decades. It's more than fair to compare it with DirectX and you can't justify 100+ fps difference like that. All platforms have its strengths and weaknesses it's just matter of not being blind to it. I like Linux a lot. I use it on daily basis in both home and work but let's be honest. Gaming is still a big problem that needs to be addressed.

But Linux doesn't have directX. That is the point. Windows's secret sauce is Microsoft's DirectX since Windows 95 and it's been godspeed since.

for those who don´t know it is not really a windows vs linux thing but optimalization of this particular game for OpenGL (maybe vulkan) vs DirectX. You would probably get same results on windows if you played it on OpenGL
