The Callisto Protocol is a perfect case of how to *not* do a PC release. Its truly a horribly optimized mess on desktop and #SteamDeck. I'll be sure to take another look whenever they patch it to see if there's any improvements because of just how bad it is. @@Deathscythe91 No I'm talking about the terrible performance caused by shader compilation during gameplay.Almost everyone in the 70% of negative steam reviews cites the poor perfomance and including just about every reviewer like digital foundry. Also the video states the gameplay portion of the video is using DX1 and no FSR. Edit: they deleted their comment lol

The big stutters look like on-the-fly shader compiles, big spike in CPU usage when something new gets rendered for the first time (new character, glass shattering, etc.). But there is obviously also the generally low utilization of both CPU and GPU. I'm sensing a memory bottleneck, or perhaps it's the return of our old friend one thread being pegged at 100%?

Is the ASYNC launch option generally a good thing to enable across the board? Not sure what exactly it does but firm time I'm hearing about it and figured I'd ask since I do have proton GE set up.

No. It increases the size of the shader cache, and can come with other issues. DXVK 2.0 is out now which should mean it's eventually no longer needed, when all GPU drivers can take advantage of its shader upgrades.

It seems like that you've made comparison between 2 runs on both on DX11 and DX12, while game has huge shader compilation issues. You've had to make 'dry run' on each API before making real testing, so in fact DX11 FSR might've give better performance if you'd compare it properly

I know what I’m doing, the benchmark in dx12 is the same nearly every time. Edit: or at least it was, there's a new patch out now and there's a SteamOS update too so I'll be taking a re-look :)

Hi, thank you ! I got it and very shortly refounded with no regret. For a game of this little scope, performance on hight end PC and, as I see, on Steam Deck is very bad. Performance, stuttering and the animation DLC controversy was more than enouth for me.

You've said game-play is on DX11 without DSR... but gliches looks like those from DSR... My guess is that something was misconfigured there. If I'm wrong could you explain why there are so many artifacts there?

In my full unedited recording, I check through the settings before starting the game and FSR is off (I assume you mean FSR, not DSR). Entirely possible there's another game bug.

It seems substantially better than what I expected tbh. There are some stutters but it seems like it could hold 30/40 lock decently well, at least in this sequence. Still, I've already refunded the game for now since it doesn't run well enough on my main gaming rig. Maybe on a sale sometime in the future

It looks like it's severely CPU bottlenecked since the gpu drops to 60% utilization in some places. I'm sure it will run well on the steam deck after some patches but for now it has horrible performance even in a desktop PC. So annoying that devs keep releasing bad ports on PC but keep charging the same they charge on consoles for games, it's like PC gamers money don't have value or something.

I know this is mostly a steamdeck channel but I figured I might as well ask here. Is there a software PBO2 tuner for linux? Ive got one working on my windows install just fine to keep my 5800X3D cool in fortnite but i'm having trouble finding a linux alternative for my nobara partition. Anyone have any ideas?

Note: one thing I'm not sure I've ever actually mentioned (and I don't think others who use DXVK_ASYNC have explained properly in videos either) is that it only applies to DX11. That will account for some of the better performance in DX11. I'll be sure to explain that in-video for when I re-test for the new patch, as I imagine plenty of people don't actually know this, and I shouldn't assume people do (my bad). And naturally, all tests were "warmed" first the benchmarks weren't a cold run.
