let it be known that steam deck has the best version of minecraft available(java) while everyone else is stuck on bedrock. Are you willing to test some performance mods along with some shader mods to push the steam deck minecraft experience to its limits?

@@WMan37 I do too, and yeah no root is required, but on iOS it does require jailbreaking. Maybe because you cannot sideload apps on iOS?

Im using Sodium, iris and complementary shader capt on 40 fps, it can still run at 60 but you will propably experiance framedrops if you do so without schaders 60 fps are no problem

@@WMan37 I think this may be referring to other consoles. As far as mobile devices, yes you can run PojavLauncher, though it's not always a fully optimized experience and requires jailbreaking for iOS. Both versions will still run on Windows.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Everyone else is _stuck_ on bedrock", like, even smartphones have PojavLauncher. Did they phase out java edition on windows when I wasn't looking?

Yes, it works with all Fabric and Quilt mods (they can also be easily installed via PolyMC)

But does it emulate the mouse and keyboard buttons like steam input? If not using mods might be limited, because some like epic fight mod won't work as pressing the trigger will just punch and not activate the mods version of attacking for example

Yes, it does emulate the mouse buttons, but you won't be able to use it with Epic Fight, since that's a forge mod while MidnightControls is a fabric/quilt mod. On forge, I recommend you use Controllable instead.

Has anyone had luck with getting Steam input working with polyMC, because relying on mods is more work and requires more maintenance.

The only issue I had setting up a Steam input was changing action sets when right clicking on a chest, crafting table, or other things that open up a ui. The right click on my left trigger doesn't know the difference, so it can't automatically switch from movement controls to ui controls. My solution is to bind a back button to change action sets.

I've tried setting up the instance following the instructions twice, but both times I don't end up with the additional control modes. The only thing which is different is I seem to have to select CurseForge to locate the two Midnight mods. Any thoughts?

Maybe I'm late, but try to install "Mod Menu" mod. Launch a game and click the "Mods" button. Make sure there is a MidNightControl. Also check the Left bottom corner. There should be a (Modded) label.

First I'm hearing of PolyMC, and boy does it sound cool. And all of this is crammed into a device it's so cool to me. My brain says its bedrock because of the sticks and the touch pad things make it seem like your on Pocket Edition, but its JAVA. I am so curious to see the effect Sodium has on its performance.

Thanks for the video. I played around with and without the Sodium mod installed ontop of the mods you showed, and having it installed made a drastic improvement to battery life and FPS. It straight up doubled my estimated playtime and kept the game at a rock steady 60 fps at all times, even flying while generating new chunks (12 chunk render distance, 12 chunk sim). Unbelievable performance boost.

I set up my controls manually to be exactly like the bedrock controls. The only problem I had was getting the difference between right clicking to place a block/interact and right clicking to open up something with a ui such as a chest or crafting table. My left trigger didn't know the difference, so I couldn't change from my movement action set to my ui action set automatically. I just put a change action set button on one of the back buttons for whenever I needed to change from movement action set to the ui action set. I also use the left track pad as a radial menu with 1-9 for easier inventory management.

for forge, MrCrayfish has "controllable" for this too, you can find that on curseforge, it works on at least 1.12.x "Controllable" allows for desktops to run splitscreen as well (i havent personally tested it, but its one of the features)

Answered my own question lol. You can, for anyone else that may wonder. After years and years of mc on Xbox, PlayStation, android and switch I'm finally playing with a controller as well as amazing shaders and lighting. Hooray. Thanks for the vid!

Do you guys know any other games, for which mods like this do exist? I hate it to learn which ingame button is the steam deck button for it (for example Space = A) Most games on steam dont have the feature to display the real Steam Buttons ingame. Just saw a video for a mod which does that Job in Dragon Age Inquisition. Do you guys know any other games without official support but with mods Like this?
