Sure only if you want issues with 3rd party launchers and not being able to play anti cheat games lol literally what issues are you having with windows on the ally? If you’re just using it for gaming set it up for it and enjoy you’re not gonna have issues like so many steam deck owners claim and want there to be if anything I had more issues with steam OS than windows starting/playing games

It's very Important Steam Deck keep hitting high number and being worked on, it's sooner or later company would be pressure to remove launchers on the games. What other handheld fail to see, the future of gaming is to put the control back to players hands. Still very nice to see alot nice fix.

@@jAujAl1 Is why Steam Deck is important and pressure some some dev just remove the launchers. I know some dev or company really avoid it as much they can. As this point of times alot indie see how important making their games just work with out some random things in the way.

Unfortunately publishers would rather hurt their own sales than give up on the control they can get from their shiny DRM launchers. The best we can expect is them to at least officially support Linux with their launchers so that the Proton team doesn't have to play dependency whack-a-mole.

Do you ever think proton will one day reach Dolphin Wii levels of compatibility where 99% of all games run without issue or better than Windows? 🤔 And what about Wine as well ... *could* that hit similar levels. Sometimes I think about these things.

Proton and Wine will always be playing catch up to any new tech Microsoft release but back compatibility will be it’s strength.

Hey Liam, noob question here: Why aren’t the d3d compiler dlls installed into proton by default? I recently had to fix a game by running protontricks and installing a d3d compiler dll and wondered why it wasn’t just installed by default….

Wine and so Proton aim to directly replace everything, that's part of the point. What you would have done is install Microsoft libraries. It's complicated, but it shouldn't be needed and means Wine / Proton are likely missing something (or you install was somehow broken). It varies between games, and always worth logging a bug report with Valve on the Proton GitHub.

Quick note regarding the new Remnant 2 release if you're using HoloISO: The game oob would not run on the default Proton for SteamOS running the latest release, I had to drop back to Proton 7.0-6 to get it working, but once I did, it was fine. Hopefully this will help others for the standard Remnant 2 launch this week.

Third party launchers should be banned .. or maybe have a little icon so that i can tell if a game requires an additional launcher or not :(

I wish that would happen. I'm new to Linux gaming and one of the reasons I'm moving is down to 2K breaking my Civ and XCOM games with their launcher. I had no problems with these games prior to them adding a launcher. As soon as I denied them the right to datamine me the games stopped loading. Officially they aren't blocking anything and it's down to me to reinstall them. Like I really believe that's the case immediately after they forced their launcher on me and suddenly the games stop loading. Makes me so damn angry at the sick games these companies play and the lack of legal recourse to stop it happening.

Valve needs to coordinate with the ProtonDB community and have the DB rating under neith Valve's own verification, many of my games like COD WAW are untested but are at least gold rated and yes opening chrome to go check it real quick is easy enough but then again this is valves project.

New to Linux gaming. About to complete my first pc build using Linux Mint as my OS. Still trying to get all the info about gaming and setting up a new pc with AMD drivers, so really happy to find this channel that provides useful info. When I first looked at Linux as an alternative to regular desktop use it seemed a lot harder with little support for non coders. There must have been a huge amount of effort to get to this state since, and it's providing me with hope that I can actually own my pc and not have it do weird stuff because MS tells it to. Still haven't discovered if ASUS Armory Crate auto installs on Linux Mint. I hope not, so if there is anyone kind enough to signpost to useful sites that help pc builders for Linux, please say. TY.
