It's a great game but unfortunately badly optimized. Deck power use is all over the place and most of the time I can't maintain 60fps. Especially on longer dives. When a game like this has the same battery life as Diablo 4, something has gone wrong 😅

As far as I know it doesn't have 1280x800, but I have emailed the developer about implementing it. I don't mention it because it's still accepted as Deck Verified even if 1280x720 but I'll keep it in mind in future videos. It just doesn't usually bother me much and I often don't even notice when sucked into a game lol.

It was described to me like this - it's a cross between Subnautica and Stardew Valley. And the result seems to speak for itself. Also don't think we didn't notice the diving puns sprinkled throughout the video.

I definitely agree. Dave the Diver is awesome, and way better than it seems like it should be. It's taking up way more of my free time than any other game at the moment.

I got it a pretty long time ago, loved it immediately (especially cutscenes, omg) but perf under water was rough, dipping to the 25 fps or so, so I put it aside, confident it'd get better. Looks like it's time to stop being patient and jump back to it!

After a very fun 35 hours of playing on my PC so far, I found your video to see what Steam Deck performance is like. Glad to learn that it's mostly great. Although I don't plan on getting a Deck any time soon, I'm looking forward to a Nintendo Switch version (apparently the devs have said that it is in the works--or at least planned). And like you've nicely highlighted, the game's pacing--through its expanding gameplay and story--is what makes this easily a GOTY contender for me. The gameplay loop is fun, although limited, in the beginning. But then I'm surprised continuously as the game introduces new mechanics, areas, weapons, etc. Absolutely blew my mind how much it expands lol. As an avid certified scuba diver and fan of the slice-of-life genre, I am so glad I was made aware of this game. It just feels like a love letter to underwater exploration and video game culture (I got a good laugh out of Dave eating a ration during his sneaking mission XD).

100% on everything you said. I really hope the devs make a sequel for it. Only criticism I have is that I wished the main story line was longer, which isn't really a criticism I guess.
