Watch Force Gaming’s review/overview of Enshrouded. Though many devs could be accused of laziness, when you see the breadth of this game’s world and systems, this developer is clearly not one of the “lazy” ones. This age of early access we now live in offers benefits to both gamers and developers, but it’s always going to mess with player expectations and be unclear at which point in development it’s fair to accuse the devs of laziness or whether they just haven’t gotten to a point of optimization that they fully plan to achieve. Personally, I would prefer if games weren’t made available until they are optimized for every platform they’re trying to target to ameliorate the inevitable sniveling that comes with the early access approach, but if the masses are clamoring for a taste of some game before it’s finished, I can’t blame the devs for making that a possibility and recouping some of that development cost early - ideally to invest back into the game’s development.

Being voxel based doesn’t help also. This game looks alot better than Valheim and Valheim doesn’t run crazy good unless everything is turned down to its lowest setting.

I think it being an Early Access game also has something to do with it.

I'll probably be playing Enshrouded on my desktop instead of the Deck, even through streaming. Doesn't look like a good fit for on-the-god gaming for me. But at least there's still hope that it's going to become playable in a few months, since it just entered EA.

Vsync off, resolution scale set to 85 or 90, 30 fps cap, low voxel detail, and low SSO makes the game pretty good looking and mostly a locked 30. Gotta leave the foliage off unfortunately, it’s a big hit no matter what

@@gamingonlinux I’ve been playing the game with the resolution scaling down on my desktop 3070 as well. The game only looks sharp at 100% so I’ve just gotten used to the fuzziness, it’s part of the art style in a way. The foliage off does look like ass but makes the game playable imo so 🤷🏼‍♂️ the low SSO does make things look good in buildings

Bringing res scale down and foliage off - objectively looks terrible. I don't know how anyone could think it looks good lol.

Fortunately I can play at 20 FPS :-).

I was wondering how this runs with cryobyte33's utilities, half rate shading, TDP/GPU manually set to MAX, etc.? Latest GE Proton installed with protonup maybe? I'm hopeful this game will get more performance as development progress.

Idk if it's Cryobyte, but Iv been at a solid 30 fps with performance settings. I think this game is just a RAM hog.

For all these tweaks why not try it yourself? Steam lets you do refunds if you have less than 2 hours played no questions asked

Have you tried to Remote Play from a gaming PC ?

I couldn’t get it to work on Mx Linux but I’ll try with the latest Proton stable, not experimental or GE

I'm playing it at 26 FPS locked. Good enough for me!

More people need to take advantage of the deck doubling or tripling frames. Locking a game to 24fps but having it feel like 72 has been great for me on games like this and BG3 I do that so I can turn textures to high

Am I just old, or is it not a big deal to run a game at 30fps? Because your "rubbish" looks fine to me. Maybe I just didn't get to grow up with high end computers.

I agree the game looked fine! Rubbish to me would be stuttering and laggy. I guess thats the difference from the older gamers as opposed to the newer generations. Yeah we like a game to look nice but its not needed to be a fun game. Look at 7days to die not graphically good and fps drops a lot but still fun! I mean I have a pretty high end rig but love the steam deck. I have played Jedi fallen order 1 and 2 on it AC vallhiem the resident evil remakes , Hogwarts etc all are fine for me!

Below 30FPS constantly on the lowest possible settings that removed what makes it look in any way graphically interesting is objectively rubbish.

Enshrouded devs said it wont work on deck at launch the game auto adjust to any pc your run it on , i tried it seconds after release and worked flawlessly

Before buying a steam deck I was bothered by anything below 60fps, now I dont bat an eye at 20. The ability to play anywhere far outweighs the sub par performance for me.

I feel like the Steam deck has some sort of "ghosting" effect that makes it easier to play games at 20FPS. 20FPS feels more like 40FPS.

Obviously depends on the game, but joystick controls can really make lower framerates less mentally taxing.

Game is quite heavy to run to be honest. At 1440p ultrawide I'm struggling to maintain 80 fps on a 3070

On my sd it stays at a black screen, any idea why?

I think the newest patch broke it, same thing here.

I get pretty much 30 fps my settings was copied from a game website.

I don't know if they patched it, but I played it on my Laptop (1660ti + 4800h) in silent mode (CPU cap at 10 watt and only 4 cores enabled) and I get 30fps on 1080p, most settings at balanced.

does the xbox controller work now for tv Dock play ?

The game looks like it could do with an optimisation pass. This performance is pretty indicative of early development.

I don't like playing early access games for their performance issues. I'll wait for the game to get optimized and play a finished product

It seems to run similar to Palworld.

i need 40 fps or above otherwise i start to feel motion sickness. sadly i won't buy this game. optimizations that would make a huge improvement rarely come later. rewriting the core parts of rendering is not something they're going to do later.

The enshrouded devs have published a roadmap for 2024 and "Steam Deck Support" is one of the items on that list. So there's hope for performance improvements.

Im not a fan boy by any stretch i play and have all hardware and i can say the steam deck is a beast and handles its self fine in the handheld arena
