Dude, alienware had many good ideas none see the light of day. I went to CES and actually held the Alienware UFO (their steam deck). This was YEARS ago. Never came to be. Margins must have been too small.

There are faster way of transferring games now. The backup/restore. If you have an external drive preferably SSD, you can restore a backup game in mere minuts on steam deck.

Game size downloads is the reason I have 2 decks. The shader cache is a killer for one deck.

i hope that they extend that LAN file sharing to allow for me to just tell steam on my PC "I want /some/random/directory/ to appear on my deck please" and vice versa as great as syncthing is for my phone and PC, it REALLY did not work out well on a flatpak centered system syncing files that have to be inside the protected .var (dolphin and yuzu save files)

Think it’s stupid they even launched the Deck without the ability to transfer games locally, at least from your own PC to the steam deck. It took me 4 1/2 hours to download GTA V on a 80mbps connection limited to 70 due to watching Netflix at the same time 😂😂 also don’t like the fact that you put on an external windows formatted hard drive and can’t use it, yet in windows you can put any sort of external drive on a PC and be able to install your steam games to without having to do a lot of command line modifications. And they can’t say it’s down to privacy so people don’t steal the games because you can transfer the steam games between computers on memory cards or flash drives or external hard drive from one PC to another which I’ve done many times.
