@@bmwofboganville If a game runs 60fps 4k on PS5 with PC settings equivalent to high/ultra, is it so inconceivable to have the steam deck running it at 30fps, low settings with a 80% res scaling from 800p ? I don't get why people keep comparing PS5 and steam deck as if they had the same target. Steam Deck runs on the same graphical architecture (rdna2) than PS5. It is modern hardware. Sure it is way less powerful, but it has a much lower target to reach... There are plenty of modern games that run decently on steam deck. There are also plenty of modern games that do not run decently even on 3080 GPU... In the present case, I do not see anything exceptional in terms of visual presentation. This game screams unoptimized. It would be great as well if devs added special settings for deck (even if it means lower than low settings for some settings).

Devs are just getting lazy and not optimizing their games. Tell me how Star Wars Battlefront 2 and DMC 5 both run INCREDIBLE at 55FPS ON THE STEAM DECK and Koei Tecmo’s titles run like hot garbage on expensive rigs. You dont need to be a 5 star chef to tell the server that the food sucks just as you dont need to be a developed to tell when a game is horribly optimized

The Deck is akin to a portable PS4. It's a bit much to ask it to play PS5 games on the go at 30 or 40fps. The Steam Deck was unveiled less than a year after PS5 released with a retail price less than the PS5... people will blame optimisation but we need to be realistic.

Yeah been seeing consoles and even those with beastly rigs (3090/4090's) having absolutely abysmal performance. Par for the course with an EA release. Devs probably rushed to hit whatever launch benchmark was to hit -- and now this only hurts the longterm value/sales of the product. Was really looking forward to this game

So many devs are just focused on getting the game out the door and then cashing in on the initial buyers in hopes they won't do refunds and then they can patch the game over the next few months. It's a real shame that there is no pride in ensuring a game is as optimized as possible before shipping it out the door.

@@Spencerwalker21 not all the time mate, I mean if you look at EA, most of their games, no matter the quality, is very optimized thanks to frostbite. Tecmo Koei is also infamous for outputting bad pc ports. But I guess yeah EA should have gone with thorough quality control but I think this is the first time they work with omegaforce and tecmo koei so I'd give em a bit of slack.

Devs these days are lazy. Compare them to the guys who made games on cds back then. Those games were finished properly because they could not be updated. With the update feature, devs nowadays could release a half finished product and call it a day.

@@Spencerwalker21 Your points are definitely valid there. Perhaps my usage of developers is incorrectly worded for what I'm trying to get across. But yes, essentially the higher ups push for something to get out the door ASAP so they can recover the costs. It's even worse if the company is publicly traded and you've got shareholders influencing many of the decisions. One review on Steam summed it up well: "Buy our game today, and we promise it'll work next week."

To be fair I'm assuming publishers are the main group at fault. Most developers don't want to release a game like this it's usually staff shortages and upper management trying to hit certain time crunch release windows.

Dice’s Star Wars: Battlefront II is an example of what an incredibly optimized game can do on Steam Deck as well as games from Capcom utilizing the RE Engine such as DMC5. Look at Attack On Titan 2. It runs like hot garbage on the deck and even other higher end PCs for a game that doesnt even look like it should be otherwise graphically intensive to run in the first place.

Thanks for the assessment, ill wait for a deep sale, including these annoying launchers and awful performance for games like this and/or forspoken arent deserving of the $70 they are asking for, devs need to do a better job at optimizing these games and make an effort to make these scalable if they expect that kind of funding, right now this doesnt look like its even worth $50. I would do the same if I was a PC game developer but for a different reason other than just selling on Steam Deck. If you can get your game optimized on Steam Deck, even if the goal is between a solid 30-60fps on low settings, then chances are it'll run much better on standard desktop rigs. The Steam Deck can be a minimum standard in a world full of varied PC configurations. It's a piece of standardized hardware that developers can focus on (which is the big advantage of optimizing for consoles, despite how powerful they are). I have no clue how long Wild Hearts has been in development but moving forward devs should make the Steam Deck a low bar they should hit in terms of optimizations. Any game with crossplay should already be developed with the weakest system in mind, in my opinion.

@@neet4212 true, but it only sells online in a limited number of regions and valve doesn't advertise it at all. It's understandable though because it's first gen stuff and the amount of stuff you have to do to make some games run isn't worth it.
