When a game 'runs' (either badly or smooth), does that mean it will run on a modern PC running Linux as well? Otherwise, I could be really helpful if you mention that (how it runs on PC) as well. Maybe just an indication.

How a game runs on Steam Deck is no indication of how it will run on desktop Linux, because desktops can use thousands of different combinations of GPU + CPU, Distro and even more system-level tweaks.

Hey Liam. I have a non related question if you can answer me. I had mafia 2 classic running well on the deck with no compatibility forced also. But now the game launches and crashes on the boot logo. Already tried everything including change to experimental and GE proton but nothing seems to get it past that point. In experimental he goes further a bit but also crashes down. Any idea what the problem could be or any help on this? Thanks.

You should be able to be, it's a mini computer so same thing.

I’ve run mine on medium settings and the graphics are not bad at all…and absolutely no stuttering. But randomly it does crash after playing for a while. But I’ve build decent bases and so far and it’s running smooth just the random crashes that suck. It’s usually after I’ve been building for an hour then boom. So I save the game every 30min or so.

The game still looks good at ultra low settings. The problem is that we only have fsr 1.0 ingame, and it look awful, hopefully they put fsr 2.0 next update. I wouldn t recommend this game if you gonna play exclusively on the deck.

Is Sons of the Forest on the list of games AMD recently confirmed FSR 2.2 for? If so we should be getting that fairly quickly.

I hope that the update that is going to come out can help with the performance of the game

I thought steam deck can play any game with 60 fps

It's only a low-powered custom APU which is in around a gtx750 ti or higher graphically, but along with the extra memory and the more modern architecture it's a pokey little unit running games at 800p. as far as this game is concerned It's a huge open-world game with a hell of a lot going on graphically and dynamically. the map is prettier than the one in RDR 2 and the size is about the same as GTA5 but every single tree and bush can be cut down and you build anywhere and more or less anything you can think of as far as bases and things like that is concerned. so there's also a lot going on dynamically. This guy who made the video is most probably more used to higher frame rates and performance from a top-end desktop, and because of that it may seem to him that the game is running poorly but for me the game runs fantastic on low setting at 800p. but i have had some crashes and dips though when it rains and i have also fell through the map on a couple occasions etc etc. the game is in early access though its a little broken and when the updates start to come in the game will run a hell of a lot better you might even get a constant 40-ish down the line.

everything has its limits

still pc games running on a standalone its really good

Mine crashes, freezes, and frame rate drops.

Using cryoutility and by setting vsync in game to 30 I get a very consistent framerate and no crashes

​@@gamingonlinux i've answered it, look: argument: "steam deck is not and will not be a reference point in terms of minimal hardware specs" question: "What makes you say that?" answer: "it's not a powerhouse and it needs optimizations from games" "basic game dev" is to provide minimal hardware specs to run the game and steam deck hardware is way below that is there for sotf, expecting the game to run well in this conditions is not wise especially if you're using third party steam deck launcher hence there is no steam deck verified badge on this product :)
