This is why I really struggle to get on board with buying early access games. I understand the need for financing games whilst in development, but too many devs get that initial cash injection and then seem to slow down development significantly to the point you get games stuck in ea hell. The few games that don’t do this make it worthwhile, but it’s starting to feel like steam is the new Kickstarter sometimes.

I was in the phase as well then AAA games started doing it, now I look at it as if a game is getting updates it wasn't finished to begin with so EA means nothing to me anymore if I can play it thats all that matters.

I agree with you in some part of it because yes it is early access and will probably stay in it for still a looong way but compared to other games it is still progressing regular new Updates with many content which makes it Absolutly worth buying imagine waiting for it being full released i bet u like hell if that day comes the game will cost around 60-70€ so its unbelivable cheap right now also and soo many others game in early access gets at some point just abandoned without any progress and still costing like 20€ or more

I think everyone who plays this game has a love/hate relationship with it. It's quite an ambitious project and falls prey to the typical, "Add shiny new content, leave less interesting things broken for years". I've been playing it on Linux regularly for several years. I get the point of people saying, "rabble rabble early access" but I got two copies of the game for $15 years back and never had to pay for an update since. They could have made it into numerous games and charging for each, or make each new installment paid DLC, so it's not the obvious cash grab some games have proven to be. Yes, if they hadn't wasted time changing the skill and crafting progression repeatedly the game might be complete, but there are many other things they added for free that mostly makes up for it. Another wrinkle is that because of the vast differences between versions, and the ability to go all the way back to Alpha 10 in betas tab under game properties (which is broken on Linux desktop and needs to be done from Big Picture mode). They also have verbose XML files which has led to many mods and total conversions of the game, and it's still possible to play older ones while the popular mods get updated to the new release. I haven't tried it yet, but they now have a Linux version of the 7D2D mod launcher. I also remember hearing someone say that they had better performance by forcing the proton version vs using the native game, but that wasn't my experience and this was a few releases back. It might be worth considering. The new skins, the POI's (Points Of Interest), the work to make new world generation faster has all been great. The changes to the skill and crafting systems was probably unnecessary but works out well. The biggest fault with this zombie game the past two releases just so happens to be the broken zombie AI. I really wish they went to dumb zombies in huge hordes. Instead they watch YouTubers break the game and they actively tweak the AI to try to thwart people from making zombie-proof bases to the point that zombies running at you will just stop and beat on things. They really need to either make the AI changes for horde night only, or go back a few alphas and try again. But sunk cost fallacy dictates that's never going to happen. Hopefully someone comes up with a drop in replacement for the AI after they leave early access.

7DTD is well worth buying, despite being stuck in 'Early Access', because it's already a pretty complete game, which you could spend (hundreds of!) hours playing, and I've found it pretty rock solid. The only downside is your existing save games won't work after the (roughly yearly) new updates, unless you tell Steam to stick to the older version of the game.

40hz is fine I play at 40hz with v sync on runs perfect most of the time with a few dips

Personally I'd rather play fun Early Access games like 7 days. A lot of big companies are not releasing solid products lately. I bought 7 days for pc (8 bucks) and i have over 500 hours on there. As far as early access titles go, if the price is right and the game is fun and getting updated then I dont see any reason not to support it. Edit: im definitely gonna try it out on my steam deck after this video. I was concerned that alpha 21 wouldnt be supported

Your thinking of the console version, but it was the publisher not the devs. PC version had a different publisher and has been going strong since the start

“Everyone else” is not playing at high on Steam Deck considering this game still drops frames pretty heavily on proper midrange and better desktops, particularly in populated areas/during events.

you can play and get a bit more out of it if you change the ram settings in bio also fsr set to 5 of sharpness is a must

I'm surprised 7 Days performs as well as it does given it's an Alpha still. I reckon once they finally put it into Beta they'll get the FPS issues sorted, but by then no one will be playing it :)

Best game ever made

I’ve always wanted an endless game, that allows you to do damn near everything. This is it. EVERY single thing in the world can be destroyed. And that itself is hard to beat

Mods for this game are like playing a whole new game.
