Fsr 3 does not work when the frame rate is this low. Amd says you need to get to 60fps natively before it’s useful. The reason is latency is so low at 30fps or so, that adding additional latency from fsr3 will make it unplayable. It’s similar for dlss3.

Ok the city landing is more of the really rough lugging I was expecting. It can be tolerable but you have to be braced for it and willing to ignore the irritation. Not quite slideshow, but maybe more like trying to play Witcher 3 on the Switch.

I heard that this would be a CPU intensive game, but by the looks of it the bottleneck is the GPU. The CPU usage is hovering around 90 percent while the GPU is maxed out much of the time.

First off thanks a TON for these two videos. It's been a BIG factor in deciding to wait until at least the proper release. Just because I CAN afford the extra 30 bucks doesn't mean I wanna spend them. I'll wait for proper release. It doesn't run great (20s in big areas with spikes in the high teens!) But its honestly impressive that it even runs at all this well on the Deck so far. Hoping to get improvements from both Bethesda and Valve/Proton in the coming days and weeks. I'm also concerned as I'll have to run it off SD as I don't have enough internal space. Worked out fine for Baldur's Gate III so I'm hoping the same here. Again thanks for this look! Are we gonna get a part three with on planet exploration away from big cities and other big locations? Hope so.

For comparison, Cyberpunk runs better at 10W TDP, medium settings. Starfield should be hitting 40fps without any issues, considering its dated engine, low npc count, and last-gen animations.

@@jeremiahjohnson2784 you do realize how difficult the RED engine is to optimize and use right? its a great example, the creation engine is dated as hell, they shouldve just sucked it up and went with unreal, instead of attempting to upgrade such a broken engine. if cdpr can get cyberpunk to look and run as well as it can, bethesda should be able to do the same, take into account vehicles moving about too, not just npcs in cp2077.

This is honestly a pleasant surprise, and is remarkably stable considering the steamdeck hardware specs. If it runs this good now, and this is one of the tougher performance areas of the game, then for someone like me I consider this playable. With that said, a closer to 30 lock would be a huge help. Maybe with updates and optimization it can be inproved a little down the line? Great starting point though. If this was the best case scenario, it would logically seem unlikely to get to a good playable state. This seems to be the worst case, I believe it will get at least a little better. The loading times are quite something though arent they? Gives me HDD loading time vibes.

This game cannot justify its poor performance on all machines. It's graphic aren't any special at all at least in the cities and given how many corners they cat like not been able to fly a ship out of a planet or the planets have invisible walls and stuff like that it's clear that the game is unoptimized or their graphic engine really sucks.....

I'm sure there's going to be optimization done to Starfield so that it will run better on Steamdeck. Heck, cyberpunk runs decent on the deck, as well as RD2. I'll give it some time, as there's going to be all sorts of patches/fixes over the next few weeks.

1. When you fly your ship on the orbit, you stay there. You inow you are moving when you are in combat. Are you really moving? No. Its just like playing that old arcade game but tuis one is in 3D. N9thing much you can do on the orbit. 2. Too much transition between this and that. Imho.

After another update this morning the game seems to be looking better than yesterday. Still playing on low for everything and forcing proton experimental for now but things are looking a lot clearer. They’ve been fairly quick to get these out so hopefully it’s going to keep on the same way.

I've played around 10 hours of Starfield on my deck so far, and while the performance is as you describe, I actually found it doesn't bother me as much as it does in some other games. Input feels surprisingly snappy even at sub-30FPS, and at least for me it's never dipped so far into the low figures as to become unplayable. Sure if you have a meaty desktop system or a Series X it's going to pale in comparison, but I'd say if you've got no other way to play Starfield (I'm still getting the impassable incompatible GPU error), it's... fine? I'm having a blast with it tbh

The game doesn't seem to be terrible, the biggest thing I've seen so far besides some mechanical problems (easy to fix) is the loading screens and the performance (abysmal). This game might be worth it to play in about a year once fixed. (maybe)

Thanks for being honest. I've only seen one review on the Ally that showed the same thing. it run well in a lot of parts but he showed where the frame rate on the Ally dropped under 20 fps in some parts. My son laughs at low frame rate as he often plays PC games where the frame rate drops into the teens on his gaming desktop. G-mod, games dealing with tornadoes,etc. I asked my son with his tornado game he was only getting 12 fps and he said the game had two large tornadoes on the map destroying some large cities. I've played some RTS games where the frame rate dropped in the toilet when the game becomes overloaded with units and activity. With TBS it's not much of an issue with fps but the AI will take longer turns later on with more activity on the map. Sometimes painfully long. For me frame rate drops in the low 20's walking around a city is still "playable" on a handheld on a 7" screen but would be very disappointing on my gaming desktop.

At least it runs. Is this on Minimum spec for the best performance? It's so weird to see a game in late 2023 which has load screens for everything you do... I guess that's Bethesda's old morrowind engine though. The other thing we know is that as you progress further in their games - the load screens from bigger save files get longer and longer. I'd hate to see some poor schmuck playing this on a PC with a mechanical drive.

Compared to how Oblivion and Skyrim ran on the PS3 this looks like a masterpiece. I was expecting full on pauses while areas loaded but it seems that it runs pretty great on Deck all things considered

Hey man. Was having a good time playing on the Deck. The update that Bethesda put out borked it. I went between 20 - 30 and 25 - 30 (with mods) to 6 - 10 fps. I've done everything from removing the optimization mods to starting a new game to reinstalling it completely. Nothing has help. Even with Valves update nothing. Any ideas or is this everybody on the Deck at the moment? I checked posts and videos and haven't seen but one other person saying the same thing on reddit.
