I don't know what happened but my fan has been having crazy behaviors for 2 weeks. It runs too fast and then stops, then runs very fast again... I needed to install mods to create my own curve speed to control the fan speed. Is anyone having the same bug behavior?

Taki Udon replaced his shell using the extremerate kit and uploaded a overview/review video of the kit. I'd recommend anyone looking at doing this take a quick look at his video. The two big things he noted are: 1.The included tools aren't great and you're better off providing your own (and definitely should have a heat gun if you can) 2.The guide really needs to be remade/corrected as their steps apparently made the process more difficult than it should have been.

Good choice, the versus battles were great.

After shell swapping a Switch Lite, I don't think I will be doing it to my Steam Deck. I really don't feel like swapping the screen in to a new shell.

@@mechanicalmonk2020 that's the full Linux experience :D Last year for all Arch Linux users new update broke Bios grub, and you weren't able to load to system. Spend whole day to copy and backup files and reinstall system on my laptop. Any update is win or lose.

The developer of Decky Recorder has been telling Valve that 3.5 breaks screen recording. They haven't done anything about it yet :(

Hi. After update the steam menu bottom and the access bottom don't work at all. Talk to valve and wipe out the drive and problem return after I put the password, valve says that they know about it and that they patched in future updates. This problem only happens with the password on.

I'm pretty bummed because I've been using desktop mode for a while to watch Netflix and now it just doesn't work anymore. It really bums me out. Hope this can be fixed soon

It is most bugged / unstable “stable version” ever :-) so my steam deckis in drawer and waiting for patch update. There is slow boot, slow shutdown, checking integrity from switching from Desktop to Gaming mode everytime, cant type PIN code into Desktop version of Steam over on-screen keyboard, etc. So Valve released Experimental as Stable, cool fail.

Oh no, the replacement shell teardown video is 1.5 hours. No way I'm trying that. I will say though that they took a lot of care with the assembly package and things like precut screen glue on easy to apply tabs.

The latest stable update somewhat broke my dualsense edge on deck. Somewhat, because when I plug it in now more often than not the button layout will be all wrong (square is a, cross is b etc.) after a restart the issue goes away.

Finally valheim performance update. I love it but on deck doesn't run so good tbh

Regarding the sales numbers, if you look at the Steam hardware survey evolution the Deck seems to be selling North of 400k units a quarter. It has probably sold over 2 million units by now and is well on course to blow past 3 million by year's end. I wasn't expecting the Ally to impact the deck sales tbh. More the opposite. The fact that you can buy an Ally right now without waiting list seems to validate that point imho. It didn't sell out on preorders and the reason why is quite simple. The deck sold a lot of units for this niche space. A lot of the pioneers got a deck and the Ally frankly doesn't provide enough to justify the extra cost. Most regular folks that might be curious about the market will look at the 400 bucks vs 700 bucks and the decision becomes clearer. And that is in the US where the Ally is cheaper. Come to this side of the pond and you can buy 2 64GB decks for the price of 1 Ally. When you consider that people who will buy the deck now are basically experimenting and a handheld will be (so they think) their 3rd or 4th gaming system the difference in price is quite large. In my case I got a deck because I was curious. I have a desktop that I had just upgraded the CPU (12400f and 2070 Super), a gaming laptop and I got the deck basically as something to try as I was curious. The laptop went a week after I got the deck and the desktop is going as soon as I get my mini PC. The deck is my main gaming system. And finally we have the ROG marketing team to thank for the deck sales figures as their marketing was quite aggressively talking about the deck which invariably led people to look further into it and realize "hang on a minute, I can have 70% of the performance for half the price?" Edit: and one final point that is worth mentioning, system power was never decisive in the console wars (PS1 was weaker than N64 and Saturn, PS2 weaker than XBox and Gamecube, Wii far weaker than PS3 and XBox360, and Switch is just not even on the same ballpark as the PS4 and XBone). Launch date, ease of use and adoption numbers play a much larger role. And more and more devs are catering for the deck to offer the plug and playability of consoles. And that will play a major role I think.

Yeah the Ally can grow as it's own, and not be a Steam Deck killer, like the Steam Deck was a "switch" killer at the beginning then it becames it's own category, you can have casual console on the go console which is the switch, casual PC with the ease of mind of a "console" which is the Steam Deck, performance horse power for people who want big power which is the Ally, but I think the Ally won't be support in 1-2 years since Asus basically is a hardware company and makes new products to replace the previous one every year

Any tips to stop the framerate of Dolphin tanking on the Deck after 20 mins or so? Seems to be a widespread problem. Relaunching the game resolves it but it's not really a viable long term solution.

Have you disabled SMT with power tools? Haven’t had any issues with Dolphin on deck personally. 20 hours into Xenoblade without even a single FPS hiccup.

Been playing the new Vampire Survivor DLC, WildFrost and Exit the Gungeon to name a few.

Thank you for not being every other youtuber that hopped on the ASUS bandwagon and trash their steam deck now. A windows handheld by ASUS is the anti consumer product from hell in my opinion.

Valve is correct to make Steam Deck feature set more console like with instant resume, a focus on user friendly and wider compatability. Last but not least cheaper. Ask Sony why Nintendo beats them on the portable console front.

new stable update is garbage, desktop mode steam app has visual glitches and issues beyond believe. they were given feedback on those since the beta dropped.

Eternights is my favorite demo on the steam next fest, runs amizingly well on the steamdeck

Valve should stop wasting time on a native client for Deck and desktop Linux (and MacOS too). If they move the Steam client to Wine/Proton they can instantly reach features-parity with Windows. Also, one single code base to maintain. It's a win-win situation!

Gabe is not doing only business, but also have ideals. And his ideal is to make linux popular, and make it slowly and laboriously, main system for millions of people, starting with game compatibility. He could easly put windows on steam deck, but he choose to brake the monopol of windows on PC's
