This demo still performs badly on steam deck I wish they would actually sort this out

He says significantly improved performance yet the game still drops to low 50s and sometimes high 40s it’s not improved at all

Hey! Despite the engine update, the demo still runs on the same code as 7 months ago. We've made massive leaps on the performance side of things in the new (internal) build, but could not bring those optimizations over to the demo because the game code has matured so much that the demo is simply too outdated to maintain. If we want to update the demo to be closer to our internal build, we would have to put development for the full game on-hold for a few weeks just to properly update and test it. These days we have a release date target we want to hit, so we had to prioritize. Updating the 'engine layer' of the demo was a lot easier, and given the stability issue Selaco had on the Steam Deck, it felt like a worthwhile thing to update since it gave players the impression that the game would not be Steam Deck compatible. That would be shame, because we are pushing to make it a Verified game! Also please make sure you run the game in Vulkan! On a Steam Deck there is no reason not to use that.

It does perform better than it did a year ago. It also greatly depends on the tdp you use and the graphics settings you choose. Also, as was stated in the video, you might have some of the old files stuck on your deck. This would stop you from seeing the improvements. And on top of all of that, the final release has further optimizations.

I mean if you want a good FPS game you really have to buy indie. I can only think of the newer Doom games on terms of AAA. Unless you go full multi player. Which I can't be bothered with anymore.

I got a little over 100fps on the Ally on medium. Seems to average about 70 with dips in the upper 50's. That was a 15 watts.

This looks kind of interesting. I'll keep an eye on it for now.

I remember feeling that the environments were a bit overly detailed for the Steam Deck screen, and in many cases I was just walking around wondering where to go next since I missed a button that blended into the environment. I hope they make these things a lot more readible, since the gameplay itself is REALLY good.

Sell A Co? I've always called it Sellaa Co

For me Selaco is the best FPS of 2024 for now. I like its atmosphere, the protagonist is drop-dead gorgeous, although it's a pity it's not in third person. It's quite tough even in normal. I'm playing it on easy and I enjoy it more. The combat is interesting, they were inspired by F.E.A.R. rather than in Doom, it's a pity it doesn't have bullet-time, this would balance the difficulty better.
