Ah darn, didn't spot that somehow. Looks like a recording hiccup, recording with OBS Studio on Linux is far from perfect :)

2:17 YEEEEES. This is all I needed and my biggest problem with buying a game and playing it through wine. Because when you did that, not only are you not supporting Linux software development, you are essentially supporting Windows software development. And that's a big NO NO for me. So if I really wanted to play a windows game on Linux, I would have to wait for deeeeeeep sale or use the arrgh way. And I don't like the arrgh way.

There is definitely room for concern in terms of Linux support, but I think overall this will be great for promoting Vulkan; a dev might use it even if they can't make a Linux port since it still increases the chances of getting Linux sales, provided it runs well on proton, of course. So I think this is gonna be a positive development for Linux and gaming in general.

Well, you're still in a way supporting Windows gaming and development, but also showing developers Linux sales. A bit of a doubled edged sword really. Will have more thoughts up in a written article in future, keep an eye on the website.

some misinformation, not all games will run. people still need to beware of hardware limits the game has in place and not all games run like the ones filled with DRM. Steam will not make your games into linux what you are playing is like a Wine copy. steam is lazy and the game you playing was machine made not people.

I have no clue why it doesn't work for me. i have a i7 6700k, GTX1060. and it's unplayable. all the latest drivers and everything.

Note i am a AMD user, however with a quick google it seems you may have to setup vulkan for your nvidia card does vulkaninfo give you an error by chance? (if you are a ubuntu or debian user you can sudo apt install vulkan-utils to get vulkaninfo if you dont have it)

great video! this is a awesome thing to happen. even if you are completely anti wine you can now show devs your interest as a linux user by having your store prefs show linux only then wishlisting a game. also awesome that users of steamplay will show as linux purchases. Sure its still wine but with valve behind it, it could become a much easier way for people to play some windows only games without having to either manually setup wine or mess with things like play on linux and setting up many versions of wine and setting up all the tweaks and stuff for any given game. very excited to see where this goes. hopefully they will push proton very far
