It does indeed work, HOWEVER MGS2 will crash whenever a video overlay is played (such as during certain CODEC conversations or in the Tanker Holds with the Marines and projector video. Unless someone manages to fix this, it's best to skip CODEC calls that have video overlays for now.

@@gamingonlinux I'm not convinced it is, people are having (different) issues on Windows as well. I think they just slapped this together with little investigation into best practices.

Issues like this are pretty common for Proton, it's not specifically a game issue with cinematics but the tech they use that needs to be better supported by Proton.

Just goes to show how important Hideo Kojima was for the MGS saga and Konami's games in general. He personally oversaw the BluePoint's HD porting project back in 2010, and it resulted some of the best remasters ever. Now, however, Konami's just lazily milking the franchise and not putting any effort in.

Hopefully Valve fixes this for the more casual users. I hate that Valve has to do all this development to get games running on Linux, they've covered every game spanning decades of technology. Yet there are still little gaps here and there when new developers put stuff out (always seems to be... the bad developers... but maybe thats just my mind playing tricks on me). But Valve has the time and money to do it so I'm glad they're going for it.

I think the distorted audio was like that in any game when using native XAudio. That crash is maybe FAudio bug.

Achievements and the sheer amount of hoops you have to jump to get MGS3 working on deck via emulator kind of make your point moot. This is just one of many ways at this point, and this currently seems to be the least complicated. RPCS3 caused my fans to constantly run at 100% and the battery life was abysmal. PCSX2 had stuttering problems all over the place. This horrible port is pretty much my last bastion of hope without resorting to installing Windows.

got the audio working clean...... But flashback cutscenes and some codec moments, as well as the tutorial vids under "special" on the main menu of mgs3, display grayscale and color patterns with static, and the audio is still bugged.

Apparently, even if you manage to get the game to run with this fix. There are cutscenes that will crash the game.

Thanks for the fix, my vita is just too small to play these on anymore. And i dont know squat about emulation, which sucks because i definitely have older games i would like to preserve

If you have a steam deck and aren't emulating you're doing it wrong lol, emu deck is extremely simple
