That level of involvement in the platform is why I'll stick with the Steam Deck despite the competition. That's the difference between building a new hardware versus building a whole new platform.

EXACTLY. Valve are building an entire platform. My issue with stuff like the Ally is that it's simply tacking on an extra interface, on top of Windows 11 and the experience from what I've seen is problematic. They are entirely controlled by Microsoft and they could at any point push out a Windows update that screws it all up.

About the memory issue: If anyone wants to try this launch command: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dxgi=n" %command% I've used it on Halo MCC which had a memory leak issue as well and it fixed it. Please come back and report if it works for you. I don't own the game yet, so I can't test it.

Yeah, even through I use cryo utilities and I sometimes experience a hard spike ram where I have to either wait it out or hard reset my deck in order to fix it. It would be nice if value could take a look to see what's going on.

Only so much that the weak CPU in the deck is capable of. Same reason newer console games get locked 30 no matter what the resolution is. Expecting 40 or more for everything on a handheld console is not realistic when even the current plugged in console generation can't do it always . One of the things the Ally and other zen3/zen4 devices have going dor them. A massive bump in single threaded performance and CPU efficiency.

Only if you're actually not sensitive to framerate issues. I only enable FPS counters when I feel something is off, not the other way around.

While it is partially true, it doesn't change the fact that overall I think that PC gamers are more sensitive to frame pacing issues and stutters (because they know about it and because it is more prevalent than on console), and even without an FPS counter I personally can definitely observe it and be bothered by it. Not having an FPS counter on all the time can be liberating though for sure, once you are satisfied with the overall level of performance you're getting within a game I'd say.

It depends. If I feel like the game isn't responsive enough, or I otherwise notice it isn't as smooth as I expect it to be, it would just bug me more. That's why I enable the Steam FPS counter but only in its faint default color and in top right corner so I don't pay attention to it, but it's there when I need the information.

It seems no matter how many updates this game has my system isn't powerful enough to play it at a stable 60fps. It's a shame because I think without the losses in DX12 > Vulkan translation it would be quite possible, so it doesn't surprise me that there are still issues on the Steam Deck. Whats more surprising is that it's got verified when there are still major issues. Hopefully they will continue to patch the game, but it makes you wish they had just developed, tested the game properly before releasing. Releasing broken games and patching them after is not cool.

Get a better system then. Both of my PCs could run this game at 60+ fps at max settings, even back at launch. If you cannot afford a better PC then readjust your expectations. This is an incredibly demanding game, regardless of optimization.

I get that hard stutter lock thing occasionally. But it seems like it happens when my battery drops below 30%. It pretty much happens for most newer games I have played. It would be nice to get a fix because my deck didn't always do that.

Dock mode makes no difference to how the Deck performs, so it will play exactly the same as you see in the video. Unless you try to play at a higher resolution than 1280x800, in which case it will run much worse.

I purchased yesterday TLOU yesterday, and on my steam deck, all stock settings and game options on low, fsr balanced, i had 30 locked fps almost 98% of the time. I just arrived now to Bill’s town and is completely playable. 1 hour and 30 min of battery life
