I'm a bit surprised that no one seems to use Steam OS FSR. Setting the game at 960x600 fullscreen with FSR on give a great result, and track mania is a good example of a game that benefit from it.

@@DavideDavini I tried it on one game, gta4, and I was surprised that it made almost no difference! And it's a power hungry game for it's age.

Definitely. Especially games that have clean AA & geometry (not tons of foliage and transparency). I think the biggest issue with the built-in FSR is that a lot of modern games use 1280x720 as the lowest available rendering resolution, and forcing the game to go lower through the OS often result in a pretty bad UI experience (since the game was never intended to go below 720p). A lot of older games allow you to go all the way down to 480p, which is great! But in those cases you really don't need to go below 800p due to how light-weight they are on the Steam Deck. :) But yeah, I agree, the built-in FSR should be used way more often when optimizing games.

I’ll tell you more. I wish MacOS had something similar as the M1 has very similar performance to the Deck but, the Deck runs better because of it in the same game. Yeah, sometimes I happen to game on Mac as well. Whatcha gonna do.

Think i will stick to trackmania nations(free)/united(paid) forever. it's listed as playable and it runs much better looks almost as good and has way more content and not packed with microtransactions. Before Trackmania became .... "ubisofted"

TM2020 is better to be honest in quite a few aspects. Just the Cup of the day alone makes it worth. It does *not* have microtransactions, it has a subscription model, you pay $9 for A YEAR. I find that a very good price for practically endless content that is added every day by users.

Hey, I'm not at all a framerate junkie, i have played many games at 40hz, but track mania, at 40hz? That's not at all the right way to play at all i think, i would sacrifice battery or graphics any day for 60hz any time

I’m gonna agree with content creator here. If 40FPS works then why try to say it’s wrong? That’s pointless. I play some FPS online at 40FPS. Guess who doesn’t care?

I play a lot of games at 45-50hz, it makes a lot closer to 60fps and when at 50hz you won't even notice and it benefits like a 25% battery improve. Black ops 3, 50hz custom maps, med graphics, 1152x768, 90% res scale with fps runs butter smooth and looks like native and the total draw is 12-13w (3 hours). You should definitely test the 45-50hz range, I played sonic frontiers at 48hz and it was super super smooth for me.

Long time TM enthusiast here. Just a small nitpick: The game does *not* have microtransactions. It has a subscription model costing $10 for a YEAR, which I find quite affordable for the infinite amount of content you get. The devs specifically discussed microtransactions vs. subscription vs. a new game every 2 years or so and I find the subscription model more than fair. Not sure why everyone is hating on it so much, for that price you are provided with regular updates and the game can live on.

The game plays great, and did before it launched on Steam, but I can't for the life of me log into Ubisoft Connect at all? Existing account form doesn't do anything when I click "login" so I can't launch the game with the paid content/saves that I have already :/ Crashing was there before the Steam launch too, just FYI. Not sure what causes it because sometimes it'll be *really* stable and play for hours, even after being in sleep mode (which can cause issues for games not expecting it) but other times it'll crap itself for a laugh. Still fun tho!

Yeah, Ubisoft Connect was giving me login error for months and one day suddenly worked... They didn't even respond to my tickets, this error locked me out of my Ubisoft games for months, not a platform i plan on invest time/money if they won't let me access to it.

You should not be playing this game at below 60 frames. This is a competitive game and you need as low input lag as possible. Frankly you should play on minimum settings and completely unlocked frames or maybe 90 in-game cap. Yes, playing this game at 90, 100 frames is a great difference if you care about your times and very few people play this game for other reasons. Sorry but focusing on fidelity in this game is very nearsighted. I can bet you 10 bucks you will either quit this game soon and if not, you will change the settings. Your times will improve greatly. Saying this is a question of preference is a sad deflection of a newbie.

@@gamingonlinux Maybe true for some casual games, but for Trackmania your priorities will always be response times and minimazing input delay. 60 fps is definately the bare minimum frames that you should target. If the battery doesnt allow for a smooth experiance, then the game is not optimally playable for the switch.

40Hz / 40FPS is the sweet spot on Steam Deck for battery life and input that won't suck the battery away. This has been talk about over and over again and has been long known about. I clearly show it working great. If you want to max out the FPS always, go for it, but don't project what you feel is the "right way to play" onto everyone :) These settings and at 40Hz works basically to perfection and as clearly shown, is very playable.

Hey Liam, got a question about current stable build. Are you finding the Steam Input Menus really janky? Like the sub menu’s General, Output, Dead Zones, Outer Ring, Haptics used to have their own pages. Now it’s a giant list of every single setting?

I've found that you can get 60 fps with 2.5 hr battery life. Just set steam os refresh and fps to 60. In game set Dynamic RAT and FRL to 60, MSAA and texture filtering to 2x, Low shaders, Medium Shadows, everything else the same. For a 720 screen it all looks great
