Yeah I downloaded it on my gaming laptop and Steam Deck and even on my laptop the game looks bad. FPS wise it looks really good, but the character models look like crap and I can’t even see the lightsaber when activated!🤬

That's true, but it's weird that they are OK with doing this when games released like this get ripped to shreds by users on Steam etc. I'd have thought this would end up with a lot of people refunding the games or just not buying them, along with a chunk of reputational damage, but I guess it's just one of those cost of doing business type things where they weigh up how much they make by just getting the game out the door in whatever state vs changing the launch date and releasing later. I guess advertising a hue title like this must cost a crazy amount of money, so it's better to just release and placate users with patches and apologies.

Love your honesty. Major reviewers these days suck. Too many bought reviews. Stuff like this and games like Zelda automatically get a 10 just because they're zelda. Unless we hold these games companies to a higher standard they'll continue giving us more and more shit.

I think we need to come to terms that the Steam Deck just cannot run everything on Steam unfortunately without the game running terribly for these newer games that are coming out, there is only so much driver updates can do and eventually everything comes down to the hardware itself trying to run the game. These games were designed for the Xbox Series Consoles and Playstation 5 plus higher end PCs. Same with the Last of Us Part 1 port. I can guarantee that game is never going to be a 60 FPS game at all and Jedi Survivor is going to be the exact same situation as well. So I think hopefully Steam will be working on the next version of the Steam Deck being more powerful with better hardware that is more closer to todays latest Generation Consoles. I know Steam wanted to keep the costs down, but I think now were starting to see the problem not having hardware closer to those consoles not running these games all that well. Obviously it would be fantastic if Steam Deck could run it, but at this point I think we really need better hardware on the Device.

I don't think that's true considering, the settings you use don't even matter, it stays at 20 fps no matter how high the settings are even at native resolution (unless you use epic) The gpu can very much run this(if you were worried about that, and even GPU utilization percentage, is very low) This game has huge optimization issues, and the biggest one is being CPU bound, the first planet runs like this, but the second one actually performs very similar to fallen order(40 fps on medium), which further proves the CPU bound optimization issue

@@MagikarpPower So I think in general, these AAA games coming out for the current gen (PS5/Xbox Series Consoles) consoles has something to do with not utilizing the hardware on PCs very well. We have to also keep in mind current gen consoles work differently than a PC does as a PC architecture in general has stayed more or less the same going back decades to at least the early 2000s, its something to do with the SSD (which is VERY much required to run these games) and the utlilization of the GPU with the CPU together that current gen consoles use that works differently than a PC does.

Doing some digging, opening level on Coruscant is the problem with performance. Once you get past the short opening area and get into the rest of the game. Performance is fine.

@@nanfoodles what I saw was from Gamestar (German site) with a version from two days ago and day 0 patch applied running on a 4090 in 1440p constantly dropping below 40FPS. Guess they have a lot of patching to do, hoping they can sort it all out some day. Playing PC games on day one has become a gambling game it seems.

Until it is not... again... It was reported even before release that this is yet another horrible PC port when it comes to performance. FPS are very inconsistent and generally much too low, even when testing with highest end hardware way above recommended configuration. Just save your 70 bucks

I think the high review scores are because the game is good, in spite of the technical issues. Tech issues can be patched out, a sucky game can't be. However, I understand that we all want a game that works on day one.

Also they most likely all played the game on console because it works there. Day One patches and Game Ready Drivers for PC that get released last minute or even a few days after release that fix everything can not be predicted and happen quite regularly. Bad Review Scores will stick with stuff like Metacritic forever. I understand why they don't want to rate on technicalities that may get fixed within days.

Out of curiosity how does one determine if the game has poor performance or if the PC is just to weak? Honestly I didn't even expect it to run on the SD given that's a game made for PS5/XBSX and the SD is base ps4 spec wise.

@@Tschudenizer and my 7700K with GTX1080 is glued to 45-50FPS no matter if i play on HIGH or on LOW. ...only EPIC pushes the GPU to 99% load and the FPS goes down by like 5. 1080p of course. That sounds impossible to me.

You can determine this when testing the game on a hardware that has a very high performance rating. For example the german magazine GameStar tested this game on a PC with a Nvidia 4090 GPU, 32GB RAM and I think a 12-core 5900X AMD CPU. And there it was barely running with 60 fps, even when going down with the quality settings ingame.

And your right Marks do have to be considered but what I see is the developer were probably being forced to crunch, seeing as the game was delayed and it's the corporate side (EA) that pushed for a "as soon as possible" release, making a game is not easy and the fact that they were able to keep what made fallen order soon good and build up on it to deliver this is also worth noting, it's easy to look at the negatives, hardwork should be applauded as well. I have not doubt in my mind they will have the performance under control within the following month. Ps. Love your videos, big fan and steam deck enthusiast.

Its probably not going to be ever totally fixed to run at 30 FPS most likely (even 30 FPS is going to be a stretch). The problem now is these games that are designed for Xbox Series Consoles and PS5 as the minimum spec are too demanding for the Steam Deck (and yes this game is not a cross gen game at all). The Steam Deck's GPU (which is unified RAM) is far below the minimum requirements necessary to run this game (which is equivalent to a GTX 1050 roughly, and the game requires a GTX 1070 as the minimum at least but that hardware doesn't work the same way as a desktop GPU). So I really do not think this game is ever going to run well on the Steam Deck most likely. Returnal (which was a PS5 exclusive), just had another update and that game still doesn't run well on the Steam Deck and won't ever run well.

They(EA & probably Denuvo) are using their customers as beta testers to fix the game faster. This would've been okay if they released the game clarifying that it is in beta for pc users and you will still be charged full price for the game. But they won't do that and continue acting like they are saints.

That's unfortunate that it's that bad. Sometimes Linux/Proton is able to play a title better than Windows (like Elden Ring), but it looks like it's just a $#it show right now. As for the glowing PC reviews, performance problems can be fixed with patches but gameplay elements, story, game design and concepts can't really be fixed, only tweaked a little after release. It's probably an awesome game when it works properly. To my knowledge game critics DO NOT return to re-review games after significant patches have improved things. So giving review based on technical performance wouldn't hold up. I'd personally prefer an awesome game that runs bad at launch over a bad/mediocre game runs great. There's at least potential to get it fixed.

I see this game and was like "I loved Fallen Order". I want to love this game too. I saw some critic reviews with high ratings and immediately thought that the ratings were too high given what I knew about the game going into day 1. I will still get it for Steam (tonight after work) and play it on either Steam Deck or PC and see which makes the most sense for me. I have a feeling I know why games like this get a day 1 high rating: it's to keep the approval of the developers and publishers so that the gaming/tech publications don't get blacklisted.

With a 4090/4080, the game runs like crap because those cards optimized yet for the game. Even though the game runs better on a PS5 or Xbox, it still runs poorly and isn't optimized enough yet. ... i got a ancient 7700K and GTX1080, i get about 45-50FPS 1080p on HIGH (played until the first checkpoint, same sections as in this video)... it runs better than expected considering i just scratch past the minimum requirements. I can't get more FPS out of it even if i go from HIGH all the way to LOW, i'm pretty sure i'm in the CPU limit because the GPU just keeps outputting the same FPS with much reduced load on low. And thanks to G-Sync it runs surprisingly smooth for those low frames. If you ever played Xbox 360 ...it kind of feels like THAT. Point being, on a modern system this thing should FLY.

I never buy new games anymore, as I realized decades ago, that I never get to them until well past release, and by then I can buy them for pennies on the dollar. With that being said, I've also noticed a rise in incomplete games and the like, which makes me even happier in my decision to wait. To me, it appears that most of these developers who pull this shit, seem to have mismanaged their funds, and instead of waiting to deliver a better product, they rush it out the door to bring funds in to help get over the finish line. As I personally see no other reason to deliver such unstable products, and face the backlash and ruin a brand reputation if money wasn't the main motivating factor.

Goodness this has been such a issue with AAA game titles lately. And it’s not by accident. It’s greed plain and simple. And it extends beyond video games. It’s just a issue with global economy and is with goods, services, restaurants etc. Everyone wants more $ for less product less service less return on investment. Sorry for the rant but it’s just something I have noticed with the state of the global economy and business environment. And it seems it’s a mix of things like the pandemic creating a weird environment and just plain old later stage capitalism. Where the pandemic created a less for more be luck you got it environment during 2020-2022. To later stage capitalism that is finding it harder and harder to find the double digit growth investors demand organically. So you gotta squeeze the consumer squeeze more $ for less expectations. Don’t know how it changes or where it’s going but it’s unsustainable.

I've no doubt that game review publications are afraid of being blacklisted if they lower their ratings due to issues like you've described. Imagine a world where ALL publications were honest, and publishers had to release fully working games on day one because they simply could not blacklist everyone.

Funny. I got Fallen Order last summer for about $10, played it on my deck when I got it (Nov ish). Loved the shit out of it! Amazing game (outside of EA changing it's launcher mid Nov 2022). Rule of thumb, wait 8-12months after "launch" of a game. See if it is actually fixed by that time, and get it for around $20 for what it is actually worth

I agree with your statement. It's an unfortunate mistake to have released on time with this many issues. However, this game would have never run great on the deck. It's unreal 4 at it's limit. I would have been surprised if it was close to playable. This is where the mod community could help. It's likely possible, but at what cost..... ✌️🇨🇦
