I've put off doing this for a while as I'm always iffy about turning on Dev Mode in a device (I was hesitant to do it on Quest 2 to enable sideloading). But Flatpak updater, ProtonDB badges, and SteamgridDB are all things I could benefit from.

The install no longer needs dev mode to be enabled, that CEF debugging step is automatically done. Also dev mode doesn't do anything on it's own on the steam deck, but that's an understandable worry to have.

Launchbox doesn't support Linux. You're better off sticking with projects like EmuDeck, Lutris and Heroic Games.

This has got to be the best tutorial I've ever seen on this subject! Not only did you explain the new changes that make installing the program easier _by showing them visually step-by-step-_ , you also show how to enable the program, recommend some plugins, give tips, and actually demonstrate each step VISUALLY and as simply as possible, assuming the viewer has little to no experience with this. This is the golden standard for a good tutorial, and you nailed it. I'm saving this as my go-to tutorial for when I get the Deck :)

I don't like the fact that it'll set a default password, I'd rather it prompt you to give it a password. Default passwords are a terrible security practice.

i got my decky installed with emudeck which is something worth bearing in mind if youre gonna do emulation aswell like... vibrant deck is amazing! steam grid db is also way nicer than using boilr in desktop to get the artwork

VERY unlikely, as it's not messing with system files. It installs the majority of it into you home folder. Deck updates can make the plugin icon vanish, but it never takes them long to fix it.

Decky Loader is awesome. Vibrant Deck is awesome. However, Valve should really consider adding contrast, hue, saturation, and gamma sliders to the display settings. I'd settle for saturation and gamma. Some old games are way too bright or dim, and adding saturation would make it so anyone could make the colors pop without installing plugins. If we can control refresh rate, clock speed, TDP, and other advanced settings then surely SteamOS can integrate more display settings. The icing would be if you could set them per game.

I'm particularly hoping VibrantDeck helps with the god awful gamma levels when docked to a TV. I had to set witcher 3 to 100% gamma just to be able to see where I was going and still need to use a torch half the time.

I'm super excited about everything that's happening to and around it, and I don't even have one. Maybe because of the potential long-term impact for smaller devs. It does seem like a fantastic platform for various smaller indies, B-games (at least when it comes to technical requirements and 'weight' of the visual layer) etc. Deck is far from being the first device of this type, but direct support of a company like Valve, and integration with Steam, make a huge difference.

it will sometimes disapear on preview/beta updates, but rerunning the install will fix it and you'll keep all your installed plugins and settings and stuff (won't always work right away, the devs might take a bit to fix it)

If you don't see any file in your download folder after downloading it means that the stupid application is being retarded you're going to have to try and hit the F5 key which the steam deck doesn't have. Also if you right click in the corner where those buttons are to go back and forward you can somehow add an F5 (refresh) button so you don't need to find a keyboard.

Probably doing something wrong but when I’m clicking Execute after downloading decky installer it just takes me to a blank page on Konsole and nothing happens.
