Running on Ubuntu 18.04 64bit, Nvidia 980ti (latest driver) with OBS Studio for the recording. 

Had to use a mixture of screen/window capture as screen capture caused immense screen tearing. So I captured the screen and when switching over to the game, I turned off screen capture to leave the window capture set on Doom - I think it worked quite well.

And yes, I am aware I'm completely terrible at it.

I tried the demo but it doesn't work, don't know if it's due to denuvo (which is still present in the demo) or to the mesa driver (18.2 is the minimum requirement).

It will be the copyright protection causing the problem. The full version has been working on mesa for a year.

Its a steam overlay option. Go into steam settings > In-Game and look for In-game FPS counter. This works on all steam games. Doom also has its own fps and performance metrics counter that's more detailed you can find that in the advanced settings.

For me it crashed maybe once or twice during single player campaign, but nothing to talk about. Normally the game works well.

I'm probably dreaming, but the #1 game on my wish list for this Steam Play treatment is ARK: Survival Evolved. Sure, there is a Linux version already available, but anyone that's played both the Windows and Linux versions knows full-well that Linux got short-changed. Big time. (ever noticed that probably 25% of the foliage is missing in the Linux version?) ARK isn't likely to be a priority, but I sure wish they could make the Windows version available for Linux.

The ONLY thing , so far, about Metro 2033 that doesn't work through Steam PLay is the very first devs-credits screen is compeltely bright green. Unsure why. 4790k at 4.6ghz 16GB rx 580 8GB vram sapphire nitro+ vid card 144hz 1440p ips monitor Linux Mint 19 ( keeps saying no proprietary drivers are installed. *shrugs shoulders*) I realize given the game I'm talking about this makes my comment alittle incoherent, but so what. Can you do a 'how to guide' for Warframe on steam play. It can be run through wine but only after jumping through a lot of hoops. And I'm frustrated to end.

Doom 2016 keeps crashing before the damn game even launches into the opening credits. I've tried every combo of +r_renderAPI 1 ,...with space between api and 1, -1, _1. Nothing works to make this game launch. Fresh install of linux mint 18.3 cinnamon 64 bit..all updates except wayland Fresh clean download of steam, updated, went through the obvious steps to begin steamplay beta ( tried both the original 3.7 and the BETA 3.something else) tried without and with the +r_renderAPI-1...still the same crashes with: " FATAL ERROR: vkCreateInstance failed with error (VK_ERROR_EXTENSION_NOT_PRESENT) and it gives a long list of crap under it in a blue font background within the Doom Console window. (sigh). So Mark of the Ninja, Metro 2033, and the Trine Games work so far. Can't get Witcher 2 to work.

@@GeoTechLand the same mesa vulkan and.driver that it's most commonly found involving a Google search and installed via terminal command. I can't think of the exact name.of it offhand. Mesa-vulkan-i386 or something like that. The nvidia one is fairly similar.

I went full AMD myself lol. I use a ryzen 1500x with rx 580 8gb msi gaming x. I use manjaro gnome with mesa 18.1.6

Man, that plays nice. I've been pulling my hair out trying to get this game to work. I think I now know why all I get is a black screen. This is a Public Service Announcement...LOL! I'm pretty sure that in order for this game to run you must have a GPU with 2GB of RAM. I've tried it on my GTX 750 1GB and all I get is sound, quite annoying. I remember when this game came out that windows required 2GB for this game to run Vulkan. Not sure if it's the same In Linux. I have a GTX 750ti 2GB in my HTPC. I might have to do some testing this weekend. Just curious if anyone is running any Radeon cards with steamplay. I can't find much info on it. I Have an R9 280X and an R9 Nano I might try. I've always heard that Linux prefers Nvidia though.

I can get to the main game menu, and it says press space to start, then it just jumps back into the main menu. If you or anyone knows what might be going on, please let me know.

The question is, how many games will this support? This is a huge step in the right direction. My problem is a lot of the larger game launchers like Origin, BattleNet, Epic Games, War Gaming, aren't going to add this. Some of those launchers also have the largest gaming player bases, it's a shame they don't support open source. Also, how many games and how frequently will newer games become available to play? That's my only gripe. Better than troubleshooting with wine, play on linux, and lutris tho tbh.

Have you seen this on Windows? Is the speed comparable? I think about playing on spec somewhat lower than the minimum requierements and i think whether it'll be worth something.

Ok, the game works quite well, but due to rather mediocre specs, I play on low settings. After all it's easily playable. Did you run it with Vulkan api? For me it crashes at startup and I have to revert back to OpenGL.

how are you getting such good fps i have a vega 64 and ryzen 1700x and can't get a stable smooth fps its always a jumpy sub 40 and i'm using ubuntu 18.04
