Alright, let me rant for a minute: I understand that java has issues with performance and security, that it can be terribly misused. But I think people forget that java and the jvm was one of the earliest cross-platform solutions that definitely helped many an app come to Linux, including Minecraft, but also other applications that are a lot more obscure (weka comes to mind). So while we should look to the future and abandon java, we really shouldn't disparage its contributions to cross-platform applications!

@@mat650 I assume unity is to blame, yes. I've only worked with C and never C++ as a student and honestly I hated it. I don't blame people trying to run from it.

@@Draconicrose well...C# has only some syntax reminiscence of C or C++ except for this it's a completely different language. It's not bad in its own right but all the .NET stuff.... But anyway it has a good presence in CAD and embedded sector for what I can tell probably for it's similarity in the syntax to C and C++ and due to partnerships of big software houses in the sector with MS. It's available as a scripting language in Unity, is that the reason why it's gaining presence in the game dev sector?
