+GloriousEggroll I found out that my windows was installed in bios mode and thats why i initially thought my laptop supports bios and not efi and if i had installed arch in efi mode then switching from windows to arch would require me to change the boot option from the bios everytime so instead i just reinstalled windows in efi mode. can i follow this video to install arch alongside windows on the same drive or would i have to wipe windows?

+Hova the guide is the exact same for BIOS just use EF02 as the hex code for the boot partition instead of EF00, and ignore the efi variable checking commands throughout the guide. I am unsure if you can use bootctl install for the bootloader, you may have to use grub. There is also the option of wiping windows ;)

+Gregory W swap is swap not ext4. When creating the partition use hex code 8200 for swap, then: mkswap /dev/sda2 swapon /dev/sda2 that's all thats needed for swap.

+Timothy Basaldua I apologize for the text not being any larger. I put the command prompt enlarged at the top of the screen so that it is easier to view commands, however when doing things such as cgdisk or bios configuring, this does not show. When booting from the Arch USB drive there is no way that I know of to enlarge the text. I did not forget to do it, as mentioned I tried to add the command prompt enlarged at the top of the screen (see top of screen @ 12:30)

yeah. you use the uuid it generated rather than copy pasting the line i gave. see the error? "/dev/disk/by-label/UUI" isnt an actual disk. you need your uuid for your root disk

You can set the swappiness very low so you'll mostly use it for hibernation. That is, if I can get hibernation working.

No swap is usefull you have 2 types of hibernation : the "light one" which will recover very fast because everything will stay on your ram but require, or a real hibernation where you computer is in nearly the same state as when it's shuted down (thus requiring less power than on the light hibernation) but with your current OS waiting for you on the HDD/SSD

antonavy Nope. "Hibernation" file is not same as swap file at all. I don't know how Linux does hibernation, I never even thought of using it, but on Windows they are two physically different files. I don't use hibernate either, but since I turned it off both I am aware they are two different files (hiberfile.sys, pagefile.sys & alsw swap.sys on windows). System goes on and off in matter on seconds with an ssd, and it is also very good to conserve energy even without hibernation, so I don't really see use for it on a modern computer.
