AMD AMF encoder struggles are finally over, it's NOT NEEDED ANY MORE!!A NEW VAAPI plugin came out for linux OBS called GStreamer VAAPI. You can find it here:https://github.com/GStreamer/gstreamer-vaapiYou can use it alongside obs-vkcapture, found here:https://github.com/nowrep/obs-vkcaptureand that's ALL you need, for ANY resolution. This video was recorded at full 4k resolution -- 3840x2160, Ultra Nightmare. No FSR, No DLSS, nothing like that. full native. It was captured using obs-vkcapture -- no capture card! no two system setup! It was recorded using the gstreamer vaapi plugin -- at full 4k resolution with 60mbps bitrate (average for 4k video), and it didn't even break a sweat. I am baffled and amazed at this plugin. PLEASE give it a try, especially if you are struggling on older hardware, I'd be curious to see how well it performs.

Curious about this, but I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong here. While it works, the performance is not what I expected from seeing this video. Selected gstreamer in OBS with x264 encoder and I'm seeing about 26% cpu usage once I start recording. (1080p60 / 6000 kbps) This is a little more than regular x264 software on slow preset, which usually sits at about 21%. I'm on Nobara where it was preinstalled and configured. RX 6700 XT gpu. KDE with Xorg.

Oooh I see the issue now. It's a kernel thing.. I manually downgraded my kernel to 5.13.0-58 via koji because my capture card does not support any higher kernel version yet. Booted up the default option and VA-API is there now. Too bad I need the 5.13 kernel for my capture card though until they release an updated driver. :/

thats because x264 is cpu encoding. you need to select vaapi from that dropdown. gstreamer can do both x264 and vaapi. you need to explicitly select VA-API in the gstreamer options, not x264

Hi! I see that on your channel there are materials in which you record gameplay using VAAPI and obs-gstreamer (I think the OBS version of Flatpak) and AMD AMF. I wanted to know which solution is easier to implement. Which one would you recommend for a weaker processor and RX 6600 XT graphics card on Ubuntu? Is there any chance of a tutorial on how exactly to configure OBS for AMD 6000 series cards? I do not hide that I would prefer a solution with VAAPI. Thank you for your content!
