These are undoubtedly the best arch install videos on YouTube, and the only ones that explain how to install it in EFI mode. Many, many thanks for making these tutorials.

Best guide out there, thank you so much. I had been reading the guide on the wiki, and your instructions are quite different. Where did you learn to use the tools you use here rather than the ones on the wiki, ie cgdisk rather than parted

+GloriousEggroll I have to agree, parted is definitely not as clear as your examples showed cgdisk. thank you again.

+The Brain Technician I've used various linux distros throughout the years, and read tons of other tutorials as well. cgdisk was one that I picked up that felt easier to use than parted.

hey, thank you for the guide. Does cgdisk work on existing partitions? so instead of say sda i would use sda5? cgdisk seems to run find however lsblk can't find my smaller partitions. The reason I chose sda5 is because I already have windows loaded and am trying to install arch to the smaller partition. Not sure where to go from @17:11

I'm looking to install this on a new laptop. Shouldn't the formatting option in Rufus be GPT if your destination drive is GPT formatted? Also, if you configure it for dual-boot, where do you install the bootloader to? I've always been leery of putting Linux on a laptop because I let it automatically select where to install the bootloader, and it took out the hidden restore partition for Windows.

+Larry Wilson Format option in rufus should not matter if GPT or not because you can format your destination drive to whatever you want. The partition type on the usb stick is irrelevant. In part 2 (found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joStuQmvHmE) After creating a boot partition, there are instructions on installing the boot loader to that partition. in my guide in particular the boot loader was installed to partition /dev/sda1 which was mounted as /mnt/boot. you would have to specify the partition you created as where to install the boot loader, not auto-select. I plan on doing a 2016 updated version of this guide soon, as some minor things have changed in regards to the boot loader (ie gummiboot is no longer necessary).

Did you have to disable secure boot under BIOS in order for USB stick to load? It gets a bit harder to partition when you want to have secure boot enabled because you need another efi partition with some sort of signed .efi files. This is where it gets really tricky. I haven't yet managed to find a solution to this... But I would appreciate a video on it.

Thanks, I successfully followed your guide with a MacBook Pro with some tweaks here and there. Just a quick question: assuming an existing Arch Linux setup for which the whole disk space has been allocated (though there is still free space), what would the general approach be to install Windows as a second boot option? According to my understanding, you can install Windows on a GPT-partitioned disk as long as you have an EFI mainboard.

+Adem Aydin You should be able to install windows to a gpt-partitioned disk indeed. I would suggest actually disconnecting the drive linux is on, as windows is notorious for over writing the MBR on whatever disk is set to primary boot. once windows is installed, re-plug the linux drive then re-config your boot loader to probe/add a boot option for the new windows drive.it sounds like a bit of a pain having to unplug the drive, but I do it every time just because windows like to be a PITA with installing like that.

Do the tools fdisk and gdisk do the same partitioning scheme i.e gpt partitioning scheme?
