I can confirm AMF it works for both streaming and recording. It's gonna get even easier not that it's integrated into OBS 28

Unfortunately it looks like AMF also does not work for that card (I have one and tested it). My guess here is polaris and higher since AMD dropped support for cards older than polaris.

Wow, thanks pal! After doing a test recording, I noticed that it barely touches my cpu while offloading to my rx590! Nice job!

Any ideas how to get AMF working on Linux Mint?

Linux mint is based off Debian, you should be able to just follow AMD's normal instructions by installing the .deb: https://amdgpu-install.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ StreamFX install is the same across distros.

Hey! Thanks for this video. I followed the same procedure but on arch on my 6700xt. But sadly, when I try to hit the record button it’ll just throw me an error saying make sure your drivers are up to date. Any ideas on what could possibly be the problem?

I think amf requires amdgpu-pro. So you have to edit settings to make sure obs launches with the correct driver.

@@GloriousEggroll I did install the packages for Arch (not debian obv). However, using the prefix and defining before the word "obs", it keeps giving out the error regarding drivers out of date.

I have an rx 470 4gb I did everything step by step in the description and it would not let me record when i launch with vk_pro obs i can set it up with AMF wiithin custom ffmpeg using "custom output (ffmpeg)" within recording settings i set the bitrate at 50k, ive tried lowering it whenever i hit record it says "warning: Failed to open video codec: Unknown error occurred warning: ffmpeg_data_init failed" how can i fix this. i am running the same version as you.

works fine here. juste tested it on a 4gb rx 580 on my test bench.

not work at all, RX580/FX8320 -> segfault with any of mentioned. vk_pro vk_radv vk_amdvlk -> archlinux

Doesn't work anymore when kernel-5.17.14-301.fsync.fc36.x86_64 or newer is used.

UPDATE: It's working again after some debugging, and even better than before! New video coming soon. Repos have been updated with required fixes. You can now mix and match radv with pro! Ex. vk_pro obs steam game: vk_radv obs-gamecapture %command%

@UCUMSHXWczvxHy9e8silnVNw i just switch my gpus Nvidia for host and nvenc works awesome and that screen capture plugin, AMD is just for VFIO. But before this i tried to use it it works good and I also played with AMF and amd pro drivers but for me it's not as that great as Nvidia one. Great video btw

Those drivers just crash my 6800XT card when trying to record. I read everywhere that its broken for 6000 series cards atm. People say install 21.40.2 but there is no repo for ARCH.

There is progl in Arch in case you have some issues with opensource drivers. For example it helps me running Substance Painter/Designer.

I should just switch to your distro because for some weird reason i don't get this working. Your vulkan switcher works great and I've also got the vulkan drivers installed and have checked it via vulkan dev hud. Without StreamFX I don't get the AMD AMF option and with StreamFX it just fails to start the encoder. As lazy as I am I hoped not to have to switch the distro because that's actually the only thing that bothers me with Fedora.

I like to experiment in order to learn more but at this point I just have to admit that there's way more knowledge needed. Even if I get it working it's probably just a matter of time that it breaks again and I think that would just make me go crazy.

theres a new pending pr that fixes it so streamfx is not required but it needs to be patched in, nobara obs ships with it patched. also keep in mind amf really relies on working firmware. a recent firmware update broke it again, but firmware from 8/15 still works fine additional note -- any time you update firmware you need to generate initramfs (dracut -f on fedora) followed by a reboot

First 2 links are not working. For now I'm using GStreamer VAAPI for H265, but I would really like to get AMF H265 on Fedora 37 since I get more quality options.

does this work with the flatpak version of obs?

no. the flatpak version does not have the patch required. i also dont think it has access to the system amf drivers

it does, but you do not need it any more. VAAPI has gotten much much better and performs better now. You need OBS 30.

Can we get this updated for new versions of nobara?
