Are you sure that you typed the script correctly?I think I had the same problem when I typed "Default" instead of "Defaults". If that's the case, I reedited the file, corrected the typo and then ctrl+o, ctrl+x

+HasanEmre Tonguç (h3T) type "bootctl install" and then follow the tutorial. If you do the check (cd /boo, ls), you'll see that your outcome is the same. I read that gummiboot has incorpotated in bootctl...

Hello, I've followed every step of the tutorial, and after I did the reboot in the last step, I was prompted to login (I guess this means that the installation was done correctly?) The problem is that when I give the user_name and password I get a message, "Login incorrect" On the other hand when I write "host_name login: root Password: the_password_I_defined_for_the_login_user" it seems that I can get in the following comes next "[root@host_name ~]# " What should I do to login as a user?

+GloriousEggroll i connected to the internet and pinged google.com in the beginning but i guess after rebooting it disconnected from the wifi and i didnt think to reconnect to it, so i connected again and re-ran the rankmirrors code and i think its working. i will update this when it does thank you so much! edit: it worked

+Hova first check your internet connection to make sure it is working: ping -c 3 google.com if you get a ping, double check that your server edits were done correctly by initiating a fresh list: cp /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist.backup sed -i ‘s/^#Server/Server/’ /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist.backup then try rankmirrors again: rankmirrors -n 6 /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist.backup > /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist if this does not work, check the backup to see if any mirrors were uncommented. if not, you may have to manually uncomment a few in your country. nano /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist.backup if you had to do this manually, copy your mirror list over again: cp /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist.backup /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

So close. Got up until the bootloader where ARCH, the Wiki, and videos always fail me. I cannot install any bootloaders. Gummi is replaced by systemd-boot now, GRUB cant find 'airootfs' (which according to the wiki is in the .iso), and rEFInd "installs" but with errors, so it doesnt actually function. In addition, bootctl tells me that my EFI partition isnt an actual EFI partition. So either Arch isnt actually formatting sda1 to fat32, or cgdisk isnt actually flagging it as ef00. Its goddamn rediculous. What exactly am I doing wrong? I can install rEFInd on Manjaro just fine. But not on Arch. I'd bitch about it on the forums but I've got no idea what "What is the output of "date -u +%V$(uname)|sha256sum|sed 's/\W//g'"?" means.

Thats what I did. Like I said, bootctl says that my EFI partition isnt actually an EFI partition, even after checking in cgdisk and formatting to fat32 again.

Man, thank you so much for these videos. I've installed Arch successfully on several machines, but always with GRUB and MBR. This past week I've had the worst, buggiest time trying to get Arch installed on a UEFI laptop. Your video is the first place I've seen anyone mention the intel-ucode - it fixed my boot problems, and now I have a live system. Thanks for the great videos.

+Shawn Carter Gummiboot was merged into systemd as systemd-boot (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Systemd-boot) so pacman won't find it. For gummiboot (systemd-boot) the 'bootctl install' is what installs the boot code, after that make the 'loader.conf' and the 'arch.conf' entry. The link above should have all that good stuff.

+GloriousEggroll are you suggesting to restart the entire process or can there be a way to make that switch from in here? Edit - I decided to restart from the beginning, entering into my BIOS to insure that my settings are turned on to UEFI. Followed your every steps and get the same message. I proceeded to retrieving gummiboot error: target not found: gummiboot Moreover, I began to follow +Giannis GI answer with typing "bootctl install". Retyping pacman -S Gummiboot gets me nowhere. Any suggestions? Cheers

When you are making symbolic link to /etc/localtime there should be no ">" in command I think

Wonderful job. I would have never even considered using systemd-boot (Gummi). I had a terrible time using GRUB on my previous install. Machine just boots so fast, with no errors. I don't think there's a better install guide out there.

After reboot I got an error: "error: loading vmlinuz-linux: Not found". I followed the tutorial line by line and everything went smooth. Only one thing was different - in the generated fstab I've got '/mnt' instead of '/' in /dev/sda3 (root) partitoin in the directory column. Please, can somebody help me fix this problem?

+GloriousEggroll Thank you very much! Actually there were 2 errors. After I changed the fstab, I noticed the filename it couldn't find was not vmlinuz-linux but vnlinuz-linux, so I took a look at the actual file name and changed it to vmlinuz-linux in the /boot/loader/entries/arch.conf. I still have no idea what I did wrong about generating the fstab but it works now so thanks once again and have a nice day! :)

+ProXicT I have an updated 2016 guide that has better instructions, but for now, here's how to fix your issue sounds like maybe you generated the fstab wrong somehow. root directory needs to be / not /mnt steps to correct: 1. Boot via USB mount your root directory: mount /dev/sda3 /mnt mount your home and boot directories which reside inside root: mount /dev/sda4 /mnt/home mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/boot chroot into your installation: arch-chroot /mnt edit fstab: sudo nano /etc/fstab check all partition directories in fstab are assigned as: / /boot /home ctrl+o to save, ctrl+x to exit, reboot
