That Production quality though :) Very well made video! Explains nicely the differences between 2 GPU vendors on Linux. Theres only one problem though. I see gnome desktop there...hahaha :P
But nice work on the video. Seriously!

Nice video, I have a question what happen with Display Port I still don't get it why people not use at less on computers. I think it might be a problem of using a new tech as oled, must be a few ppl using a TV with Oled on the pc must be a niche and very small one on windows and way smaller on linux.
Personally I have testing both cards a few years ago on hardware that was mid range not high range , I think both companies have good things to offer and lack of so many, the main reason I don't use Nvidia is because doesn't like to use the standard and go must the way they said. But using amd have some problem too but to be honest they are way better like years ago, I don't record video I do gaming so it feel better support it right away on the kernel.
About a control panel must said I don't need it, because I don't care too much about color accuracy as I don't like to overclock but use script for lower the frecuency of the clock on psate that MSI bring by default (on their gaming mode which is by default) that make frozen my system on gaming by the amd gpu reset. But had problem with Nvidia that one game wasn't running because don't use the standard functions.
I wish Nouveau was better support it by nvidia at less that way we don't problem when dealing the standard to be support as wayland and just for gaming, I won´t care using Nouveau just for gaming and Nvidia decide if you want to get all the packet as record it must be using the property driver for nvenc, gsync, cuda, raytracing, etc..
By the way drink so much water never thought cause those effect ;).

DisplayPort is superior a shame HDMI is so dominant, but you know why, so they can enforce their encryption

His TV does not have DisplayPort, he must rely on HDMI only. LG OLED screens beat monitors except for no DP:

Something strange is happening with Youtube. I noticed 4 comments showing up under the video in the Studio panel, but whenever I went to check, none showed up. :S

Tried a twitch stream at 1080 60fps and vaapi fmpeg hardware worked with my 6800xt; not sure how stable it is but it worked. 3-5% CPU usage seems reasonable. (there is always some CPU usage even with GPU hardware encoding)

Nice, very nice!
Cool headed and impartially explained. Not the usual "this gpu is good, the other one is evil" type of brouhaha you frequently see.
If I may though a small observation: I think the lights you used were a bit too harsh. I'm no specialist, but I think you could use a more softer type of light, or maybe it was the light temperature? I dunno, but it felt like you were questioned by the police, ha ha ha...hm, sorry.

Thank you so much for the feedback!
My lighting... sucks. Just regular ceiling lamps and I have to compensate with on-camera white balance. Still learning the ropes of proper video recording techniques. 😅
But yes, I think going forward, I need to invest into 1-2 proper lights if I am to generate more of this kind of footage.🙂

I used to have an old GTX960 and it worked fine for the most part, but only lacked a bit of performance. I did get a RX580 later on as I kept hearing how well AMD is for Linux. While yes in gaming I did see much better performance, however I started having huuuge issues with hardware acceleration. HW-Accelerated videos looks pixely and washed out. And OBS couldnt encode anything higher than Level 4.0 (720p60/1080p30). I eventually did manage to get AMF working but only through the advanced setup and again just only up to 1080p60. OBS with HEVC patch from AUR managed to render 1080p60 at least but i cant go higher. not sure if thats just my gpu not able to go higher

People need to stop spreading the myth that AMD drivers are better on Linux than Nvidia's. I've had far better experience with Nvidia than with AMD. One point that nobody mentions is when compiling shaders with proton, using an Nvidia card it's almost unnoticeable, on AMD cards it is a stuttery mess when you launch games for the first time.

Could that be down to steam being more likely to have downloadable shader cache files for nvidia cards since their install base is larger?

Exactly. Though, there are things that AMD has an upper hand on Linux, especially Wayland... hopefully nvidia can eventually get there, but it's all about the good old Xorg mess for the time being. :P

The Main thing about AMD that everyone Mentions is that their Drivers are Open Source unlike Nvidia's. Well I am using Linux with a Kepler Nvidia GPU that came with the Dell Precision I bought and It's not bad. I Did have one problem where I couldn't get past the Log in screen and online people displayed that was an Nvidia Problem. But other then that Playing games It's not bad.

Wait, does the HDMI standard at all matter if you are living in the proper displayport land?
I have to admit I haven't researched the standard to great lengths though.

Nope. If you're using display port then HDMI standards do not apply. The issue is that most OLED panels are TVs and only have HDMI. 🙂
