@@kallestofeles Additionally that testing was done with power level increased from 250W to 293W, under Linux and Windows. So on cool days it can stay below 50'C *under load.* Also I use a 240mm Radiator with the CPU on a 120mm rad of its own. I live in South Australia, its summer time here, and it gets REAL HOT, which is why I do the whole DIY water loop.

@@kallestofeles Sorry its already installed and I didn't take any photos, because bad memory :-/ Could have done a video but well it was a VERY HOT day and I was just tired as hell and it was a major exercise due to my ITX setup having rather tight tolerances. _Also I test my DIY water loops off a external power-supply without the PC on to ensure nothing blows out and leaks over anything._ Anyway today the ambient got to 30'C inside and the GPU temp sat on idle around 40'C and I've seen it reach 48-50'C under load. This weeks going to get real hot so will see what it peaks at, hopefully it stays under 70'C water because on the original HSF it reached close to 90'C! I used liquid metal thermal paste on the block as its nickel coated and why not _(I used whiteout to seal the GPU caps around core, but given upside-down mounting it probably wasn't needed)_

Indeed I used proton but without DX12 support. There should be the Linux native version still available, but the last time I tried it, its performance lacked behind the proton pretty hard - would be interesting to test it out though as my data is more than a year old regarding this by now... will check once I get back behind the computer, thanks! 🙂

@@kallestofeles Thanks for the suggestions and good luck with your fiber! A secondary PC is something I was considering but it's more likely I build a new one and make this one into a secondary. About three years ago when I built it I had to make some cost saving choices which were reasonable even in hindsight but even after replacing a part or two the machine shows its deficits with some tasks. There's nothing I urgently need to replace so I think I'll hold off for a while longer. I doubt I could sell the 560 considering how underpowered it is.

Thanks for the input. <3 Regarding my previous GPUs, well, I did have a 1070 and a 2080Ti before this generation, both of which I sold off. Alas, with the 5500 XT, I had originally planned on keeping it for a media-center/experimentation PC running UNRAID or simply donating it to my brother as he's an AMD fan with an older 2xx-series GPU. But his girlfriend's son was building a PC at the time and now I sold it with a very cheap price to her. If you still have the 560, then that is also a great candidate for a media-PC if you don't already have a setup. I think it would be a neat project to build a mini-pc... though again, everything costs money and more importantly time. I just hope to get the fiber soon to get to join in on your streams again. 😃

Physical installation was as per usual - luckily the GPU is pretty light in comparison to the MSI GamingX 2080Ti, so no support bracket is needed and there doesn't seem to be any real sag to speak of as well. On the software side, I only had to update the packages (kernel 5.10=> needed) as I was coming from the 5500 XT. When doing a fresh install though, I initially followed the arch-wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AMDGPU Packages should be: mesa, lib32-mesa, xf86-video-amdgpu, vulkan-radeon, lib32-vulkan-radeon, libva-mesa-driver, lib32-libva-mesa-driver, mesa-vdpau and lib32-mesa-vdpau. Some extras there for video decoding stuff. But after that, it should work fine on Arch. Might also want to create the "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-amdgpu.conf" configuration file for manual intervention later. (to enable freesync for an example) Hope it helps. 😊

Congratulations on the 6900 XT! I kind of wish I would have waited and tried to get that one as well. 😁 On the driver's side, not much to do but to install the basic mesa stuff. On Arch I have the following list installed: mesa, lib32-mesa, xf86-video-amdgpu, vulkan-radeon, lib32-vulkan-radeon, libva-mesa-driver, lib32-libva-mesa-driver, mesa-vdpau, lib32-mesa-vdpau Regarding software though, AMD is kind of lacking any GUI software so most of the usual changes, like setting freesync for an example, you would do through the Xorg config file. One neat little GUI tool that there is however is CoreCTRL, which you could use if you were to manually overclock/undervolt the GPU: https://gitlab.com/corectrl/corectrl But other than that, I can just say that when running Gnome, disable Wayland and enjoy - the experience for me has been very good and stable so far. 🙂 ... whereas Wayland does work miles-MILES better than with Nvidia GPUs, it's still a bit too raw and gaming perf still suffers a lot when comparing it to the old xserver.
