Hi Cerbereus! Yeah, I used xfce. I've tried compton in the past, but with all the fixes to xfwm, I don't find the need for Compton any more. Thank you for the sub!!! =)

Indeed as she is exclusive to the Portal of Praevus expansion - I have not had the pleasure of playing that (besides testing it ages ago), but that can be fixed. :)

So I am planning to play this game for the first time, and like the original hexen, i want to do so without any help from walkthroughs or guides... but if game breaking bugs like you mention exist, I am concerned about playing for hours trying to solve a legitimate puzzle I didnt understand yet (as happened in hexen and was part of the fun), just to have it turn out that the game glitched and I was wasting my time. Any suggestion on how to learn JUST about such glitches without spoiling any more game than absolutely necessary?

@@kallestofeles Yeah it was a blast! I think my mindset of hording items was probably starving me out for ammo during the game, though I did end up with a lot more than I needed. Next time I go through I'll probably be more liberal with the items since I know what to expect.

It sure can be tricky at times - hopefully you did not encounter the bugs... given it took you 12h and no Internet consultation - I would guess you did not. :) The ammo situation was, yes, scarce at times. At the 2 highest difficulties, I too had to revert to scythe from time to time and really get myself into the habit of using the items. Glad to hear that you finished this great game - did you enjoy the overall experience?

@@kallestofeles after about 12 hours of playtime I have completed hexen 2 for the first time, without consulting the internet. It is possible, just not what many people are looking for I bet lol. I will admit that there were bits in the egyptian world that raised my blood pressure. More than the puzzles though, the low amount of ammo was probably the most frustrating thing. Did you get that too? I was only on the 2nd highest difficulty and didnt have crap aim but was still down to my pokey scythe several times.

The only 2 real game breaking bugs that I have encountered were the one mentioned in the video where in Blackmarsh (first hubworld) the book fails to appear/does not trigger the ability to dig a grave essentially and another one in Egypt with the huge sun dial. I do not recall the Egypt bug clearly any more but it only occurred once per many playthgoughs of this game I've had, so not much to worry about but if you find yourself out of every possible option in Egypt and Blackmarsh, then it might be a good idea to check the walkthrough. :)

Great review! I am going to make my own someday on this entire series and they're going to be *long* ass videos hahaha. I grew up with all the games in this series except Heretic II, played it recently for the first time and I loved every second of it. You should totally do a video on that one if you get the chance! I would love to hear your thoughts. Also, I ended up liking the expansion to this (Portal of Praevus) a tad more than the base game, I'd love hear your thoughts on it too. If you need any help getting either of them to work I have no problem helping you out. I also found a way to get Redbook CD audio to work properly on modern systems so I can help you with that too if needed. POP has an amazing soundtrack that was made just for it that fits perfectly with the levels.

9 months ago you posted this... and just now I see it... amazing. 😂 To be fair, I don't recall it that specifically any more, but there's a condition in the game where it can happen that the book fails to load in. It's weird, cause there's little information on it on the webs and I've encountered it only on some playthroughs. I must be doing something wrong. 😅 On another note though, I just checked out your RDR.EXE series and, WOW. I absolutely love your work man! Thank you for doing these long deep dives as they make one hell of a great watching. 😊

Hey, do you mind explaining your book bug to me? I never remember encountering it and tried seeing it it would happen to me but it didn't. Game worked fine for me on Blackmarsh through all 4 characters.

Well there is probably some fan patch out there by now correcting this issue, with the bug.

I doubt the translation of this video to my language, but Hexen II is not a shooter where the word shooter is associated with a shotgun, but a slasher/spell-caster and a puzzle game. The puzzles take up 60% of the time.
