ABL sucks for productivity. But its only in HDR mode, if the input is set to PC and SDR is detected it will disable ABL. Just turn HDR off in windows when you aren't gaming or watching movies, then switch it on when you are. The tv will automatically switch profiles when it detects either an HDR or SDR signal. Better that way anyhow since I like to have the backlight cranked for games and movies, but not blow out my retinas when doing general computing. Granted I have a CX but I assume the C1 is basically the same. EDIT: Although just tested HDR for web browsing out of curiosity. The ABL is not nearly as bad as when I first got the tv. I think they must have improved it with updates since. But still prefer SDR for productivity.

@@kallestofeles thanks for your detailed response! I didn't know that extension and I've just slammed it on chrome and I'll never look back lol. About fancy zones, I already use it on my current LG 38GN950-B UW, and it's very convenient, but after less than a year I'm tired of the perks of 21:10 aspect ratio. About productivity I'm in the same situation, I edit some videos for YT casually but nothing that need color accuracy (even tho the OLED panels are quite good at it after calibration). ABL is definitely something which bugs some people more than others. For my workloads (not color accurate), it's not a deal-breaker and given the size of the display, I almost never use full-screen or even half-screen apps. If you were to add 125-150% scaling to the windows though, you might need to use half-screen apps and that's where the ABL starts kicking in. Though I must admit, I don't really get bothered by the ABL at all... moreover I'm happy that there's a safeguard to the brightness... but I also use DarkReader to turn web-pages into dark mode by default as well. 😅 I have a video in the works discussing the daily workloads for productivity and as a sneak-peek - I was afraid that it is going to be horrible on a such a large display, but am finding it way more productive than what I had with my 35" ultrawide the more I use it. On windows, PowerToys by MS (FancyZones) is a must-have tool which will solve most of the productivity issues. But stay tuned and I'll get to showcasing how I exactly manage everything on a daily basis. Thank you for the input! ❤

Thank you for the comment. You wouldn't gain anything from forcing the monitor into ultrawide resolution for productivity, rather you would lose on the actual screen real-estate. I have a video coming up shortly regarding my settings for the PC but the gist of it is that when using Windows, PowerToys (FancyZones) is a must have for productivity and general desktop sanity when it comes to the desktop usability. :) But to answer your question, I do quite the opposite to what you are suggesting - I do everything in full 16:9 4k resolution and only switch it over to 21:9 for gaming as well, the screen is still HUGE when used as a monitor and it's a bit uncomfortable when you try to game with it up close.

Productivity work is now perfectly fine for me on this screen and the only big weak-point is fps games which don't allow the FOV to be changed or strategy games which don't allow zooming out further back. The solution has been to lower the game's resolution and play with black borders around it, but that's also something to get used to. 😅

@@kasperkorea Thanks for stopping by! I would definitely not switch for a 55" if I could as per my use-case... 48" is a bit too big for a monitor already as it is (for me personally) and I feel like 55" would just be too uncomfortable. Regarding using it as a living room TV - well, my current living room TV is a 43" old LG UJ620V and maybe I'm too old-fashioned, but I don't really need a bigger one. But I can definitely see where you're coming from with this and when it comes to using it as a TV, usually bigger is better. I'm just afraid that you'd be disappointed when using the 55" as a monitor as it is... well, huge. But before I pulled the trigger on the 48" C1, I actually cut out the exact panel measurements from a cardboard box and put it where I wanted to have the TV so that I could have a clear idea of how it would look... if anything, I would suggest you do the same for both 48" and 55" variants... or simply cut out the 55" template from something and mark the measurements of the 48" on it as well, so you'd also have a clear idea of how it will look. 😉

Indeed and that's how I do it now. 🙂 For the games which support 21:9 properly, I force that resolution and get perfect inky black bars and a big ultrawide monitor, essentially. For strategy games which don't support zooming out enough for a comfortable experience, I force 1440p with integer scaling enabled and it's just a smaller window centered on the screen with perfect blacks surrounding it. It's not obviously a perfect solution, but I'm definitely willing to take the black bars over grayish dark colors of an LCD... and well... the un-even burn-in is a risk with this, but I'm not planning on playing a single game over 20h anyway.... unless it's an online game. 😃

Then again, HDR on the C1 is not that bright so if you're planning on using it in a well lit room, then you might be disappointed with all the reflections of the C1 and it's lower peak brightness output. @@Battleneter why would you think so? So far, once I've gotten used to the quirks and the "excessively large display", it actually feels quite nice to use as both work and entertainment. 4k without scaling gives an excellent amount of screen real-estate without having to pinch my eyes to see the finer text for work and for gaming/watching series or movies, it's just a stunning looker. The only real big drawback to all this, that I see (besides the quirks), is the fact that at one point, the display will become a mess due to the organic material degradation or otherwise known as burn-in. At that point though, should it become noticeable during gaming sessions, I will simply put the TV into the living room (I don't watch TV, but kids love it) and decide whether I wish to go for another round of OLED or go with something more traditional... or who knows, maybe mini-LED finally has some good choices on the market by then. The value proposition of an OLED though, given the eventual degradation of the panel which can happen rather quickly depending on the use case, sucks. 😃

Yeah, that's definitely one way to look at it. If they made smaller OLEDs with even 120Hz spec, it would flush out most of the LCD marketplace which LG themselves are heavily invested in also. Other thing to note is that the manufacturing for LG displays is not that straightforward for OLED panels as it is for LCDs. Whole new production lines would need to be set up and the profit margins for smaller panels are not that big for LG afaik. It's all about the money in the end and spoon-feeding customers one delicious breadcrumb at a time in order to max out the profits for different techs. 🤨

Yeah, if they would release a 42" OLED with 120Hz panel + adaptive sync - it would be a killer. Hehe, it's a bad habit of mine... I randomly start grinning whenever I focus on something. 😂 (you've no idea how many takes I've thrown to the trash bin thanks to that) Congratulations on the purchase! It will be amazing! Just don't go looking for issues to keep your mind calm. 😃

This sounds great... though, more I use this 48" display, the less I want to go back to a smaller screen. 😅 That is mainly due to being able to use the display as a BIG 21:9 display when needed... though that being said, 48" is still darn massssive. 😃

@@rixiorx that's pretty personal taste, but for me the 48" is still ok. Great thing is that you can use it without any desktop scaling and utilise all that screen real estate. The density of a 55" wouldn't probably bother me but it would definitely start becoming noticeable.

@@kallestofeles my other concern is the pixel density, I’m coming from 1440p iPs 165hz.

@@rixiorx it's definitely something you need to get used to and it looks really strange at first... Like an inverse fisheye effect. But after a week or two, you'll get used to it and the image quality is just something that nothing even comes remotely close. Congrats on the buy - I'm sure you'll love it! ... If you don't mind the little quirks 😉

Absolutely, still using it as my primary gaming and working display and it's as good as on the day I got it. 🙂

@@kallestofelesThank you so much for your reply! I ended up finding an open box C1 deal for $750 cad (about $550 usd) so i simply had to pull the trigger. Super happy to know it seems like i hit the lottery aha. Your video helped a ton, appreciated all the hard facts. You should definitely make a follow up video mate, Black Friday & the holidays are approaching so i’m sure more folks will be looking into this setup soon!

Still the best purchase you can make for improving the visuals. 0 image retention issues so far and I still love the fact that I can get the full 4k screen real estate without having to use scaling. Recently I also went with an avr to get proper surround sound and even the earc works flawlessly. There are still the usual drawbacks of using a TV but I've grown used to them. I should probably make a follow up video to explain all my thoughts
