Hi! I’m considering picking one also but I’ve read that the ABL feature ruins web browsing which obviously will be a major factor if you plan to use it as a monitor. I think that for next gen consoles and also PC gaming with a high end PC it’s most likely the best display you could get as a monitor but, how’s the every day usage for productivity? I’m afraid of spending 1100€ on this to realize it isn’t for me <.< Thanks for the review and enjoy! <3

ABL sucks for productivity. But its only in HDR mode, if the input is set to PC and SDR is detected it will disable ABL. Just turn HDR off in windows when you aren't gaming or watching movies, then switch it on when you are. The tv will automatically switch profiles when it detects either an HDR or SDR signal. Better that way anyhow since I like to have the backlight cranked for games and movies, but not blow out my retinas when doing general computing. Granted I have a CX but I assume the C1 is basically the same. EDIT: Although just tested HDR for web browsing out of curiosity. The ABL is not nearly as bad as when I first got the tv. I think they must have improved it with updates since. But still prefer SDR for productivity.

@@kallestofeles thanks for your detailed response! I didn't know that extension and I've just slammed it on chrome and I'll never look back lol. About fancy zones, I already use it on my current LG 38GN950-B UW, and it's very convenient, but after less than a year I'm tired of the perks of 21:10 aspect ratio. About productivity I'm in the same situation, I edit some videos for YT casually but nothing that need color accuracy (even tho the OLED panels are quite good at it after calibration). I'll wait for the video to see your final thoughts while I find some nice wall mount for this boy :)

ABL is definitely something which bugs some people more than others. For my workloads (not color accurate), it's not a deal-breaker and given the size of the display, I almost never use full-screen or even half-screen apps. If you were to add 125-150% scaling to the windows though, you might need to use half-screen apps and that's where the ABL starts kicking in. Though I must admit, I don't really get bothered by the ABL at all... moreover I'm happy that there's a safeguard to the brightness... but I also use DarkReader to turn web-pages into dark mode by default as well. 😅 I have a video in the works discussing the daily workloads for productivity and as a sneak-peek - I was afraid that it is going to be horrible on a such a large display, but am finding it way more productive than what I had with my 35" ultrawide the more I use it. On windows, PowerToys by MS (FancyZones) is a must-have tool which will solve most of the productivity issues. But stay tuned and I'll get to showcasing how I exactly manage everything on a daily basis. Thank you for the input! ❤

I'm thinking of buying one for my bedroom, but it is a a bit small. Do you think that using a custom resolution like forcing it into ultrawide with black bars on top and below while doing productivity work on my desk and switching it up to full resolution to play games or watch a movie from my bed would be a good idea?

Thank you for the comment. You wouldn't gain anything from forcing the monitor into ultrawide resolution for productivity, rather you would lose on the actual screen real-estate. I have a video coming up shortly regarding my settings for the PC but the gist of it is that when using Windows, PowerToys (FancyZones) is a must have for productivity and general desktop sanity when it comes to the desktop usability. :) But to answer your question, I do quite the opposite to what you are suggesting - I do everything in full 16:9 4k resolution and only switch it over to 21:9 for gaming as well, the screen is still HUGE when used as a monitor and it's a bit uncomfortable when you try to game with it up close.

@@idan1242 One day for sure, but honestly I don't expect it in the next few years. The more I use this 48" screen though, the more manageable it has become. Productivity work is now perfectly fine for me on this screen and the only big weak-point is fps games which don't allow the FOV to be changed or strategy games which don't allow zooming out further back. The solution has been to lower the game's resolution and play with black borders around it, but that's also something to get used to. 😅

OLED technology is amazing. Congrats on a great TV/monitor. The colors are amazing in 10 bit RGB mode, or 4:4:4. The only thing to keep track of is the black level equalization. This has to be correct in order to get the best picture. HDR content is on a whole another level. But HDR should be watched only in a dark room, so the picture is not contrasting with ambient light source (just like your eyes, or VR setup).

@@kasperkorea Thanks for stopping by! I would definitely not switch for a 55" if I could as per my use-case... 48" is a bit too big for a monitor already as it is (for me personally) and I feel like 55" would just be too uncomfortable. Regarding using it as a living room TV - well, my current living room TV is a 43" old LG UJ620V and maybe I'm too old-fashioned, but I don't really need a bigger one. But I can definitely see where you're coming from with this and when it comes to using it as a TV, usually bigger is better. I'm just afraid that you'd be disappointed when using the 55" as a monitor as it is... well, huge. But before I pulled the trigger on the 48" C1, I actually cut out the exact panel measurements from a cardboard box and put it where I wanted to have the TV so that I could have a clear idea of how it would look... if anything, I would suggest you do the same for both 48" and 55" variants... or simply cut out the 55" template from something and mark the measurements of the 48" on it as well, so you'd also have a clear idea of how it will look. 😉

Indeed and that's how I do it now. 🙂 For the games which support 21:9 properly, I force that resolution and get perfect inky black bars and a big ultrawide monitor, essentially. For strategy games which don't support zooming out enough for a comfortable experience, I force 1440p with integer scaling enabled and it's just a smaller window centered on the screen with perfect blacks surrounding it. It's not obviously a perfect solution, but I'm definitely willing to take the black bars over grayish dark colors of an LCD... and well... the un-even burn-in is a risk with this, but I'm not planning on playing a single game over 20h anyway.... unless it's an online game. 😃

Thank you very, very much for the kind words! 💜 The C1, from a purely image quality's perspective, mops the floor with every LCD display under the sun... that's a personal opinion of mine as I'm a junkie for deep blacks and high contrast. Then again, HDR on the C1 is not that bright so if you're planning on using it in a well lit room, then you might be disappointed with all the reflections of the C1 and it's lower peak brightness output. I guess I really need to do a take on those nasty reflections... 😅 Thank you again for your kind comment and hopefully you find this sub useful/entertaining. 😊

Hey and thanks for dropping by! Unfortunately it is really difficult to understand your issue without proper punctuation. If you have the C1 connected to the PC - is the HDMI input in PC mode? Is HDMI deep color enabled? What GPU do you have? Have you enabled HDR in Windows display settings?

LG sells oled tv 42" or oled monitors 32" at 3000$ for "professionals". I think they don't want to ruin the shitty lcd market.

@@Battleneter why would you think so? So far, once I've gotten used to the quirks and the "excessively large display", it actually feels quite nice to use as both work and entertainment. 4k without scaling gives an excellent amount of screen real-estate without having to pinch my eyes to see the finer text for work and for gaming/watching series or movies, it's just a stunning looker. The only real big drawback to all this, that I see (besides the quirks), is the fact that at one point, the display will become a mess due to the organic material degradation or otherwise known as burn-in. At that point though, should it become noticeable during gaming sessions, I will simply put the TV into the living room (I don't watch TV, but kids love it) and decide whether I wish to go for another round of OLED or go with something more traditional... or who knows, maybe mini-LED finally has some good choices on the market by then. The value proposition of an OLED though, given the eventual degradation of the panel which can happen rather quickly depending on the use case, sucks. 😃

@@Battleneter I'm happy to see the other side of the argument here as well and not just jumping the OLED TV-bandwagon! 💜 It all depends on your needs and the IPS ultrawide fits the regular PC use-case definitely better than an OLED. Not to mention the absence of "using a TV as a monitor quirks". For me though, the superior image quality is simply something which out-weighs the drawbacks and the annoyances of this kind of setup.🙂

Yeah, that's definitely one way to look at it. If they made smaller OLEDs with even 120Hz spec, it would flush out most of the LCD marketplace which LG themselves are heavily invested in also. Other thing to note is that the manufacturing for LG displays is not that straightforward for OLED panels as it is for LCDs. Whole new production lines would need to be set up and the profit margins for smaller panels are not that big for LG afaik. It's all about the money in the end and spoon-feeding customers one delicious breadcrumb at a time in order to max out the profits for different techs. 🤨

Thx for this video. One of the most important things is missing most of the time in other videos: Seeing you sit in front of the display :) Sometimes is hard to feel the size of a monitor if you can't compare it to a person sitting in front of it :)

So I've seen the 48C1 in physical store and holy shit, that thing looks gorgeous! I noticed the smaller oled tv's are less bright than the bigger ones. Is that right or is it just me? But damn, I wish LG would hurry up with their 42" oleds! Imagine the higher pixel density! :3 Then you've got a perfect oled tv/monitor for PC gaming!

@@kallestofeles I've heard about the G1 but the G1 never interested me because no smaller size and no stand/foot and not suitable for desktop use (not for me anyway). And 42" version of the C1 means a much better pixel density, so you've got two best of the worlds in one. Currently I'm holding off and waiting for the 42" oled. LCD is simply dead to me, LCD is nothing but complete nonsense and it's nothing but milking to death. Some LCD tv's and monitors even costs way more than OLED :P The 48C1 already looks damn amazing but 42C1? Even more amazing! :D

Hmm, I'm not sure about the brightness vs screen size. The G1 model though is a bit brighter for sure, though the C1 already has more than enough for my liking. Yeah, if they would release a 42" OLED with 120Hz panel + adaptive sync - it would be a killer. Though they would have to increase its price quite a bit so that they would not shoot themselves in the foot as they also have a big stake in LCD monitors.

Really holding out for the 42" (though it's getting increasingly difficult). I've had my RTX 3090 since late November and desperately want to upgrade from an aw3418dw, which is starting to show its age. I'm not holding my breath for a late Q4 release at this point and my patience is wearing thin - but 48" just seems way too tall for a desktop solution.

48" is definitely something that you'd need to get used to but after a few months, I absolutely love it. 4K with 100% scaling gives so much screen real-estate that it is an excellent setup for productivity. Although, yes, it still is a bit too big. 😀

This sounds great... though, more I use this 48" display, the less I want to go back to a smaller screen. 😅 That is mainly due to being able to use the display as a BIG 21:9 display when needed... though that being said, 48" is still darn massssive. 😃

This video was short and informative. I want to try and use a single display for desk work and couch console playing. These have competing size requirements. I want to try a 55" display. Sitting too close will be the biggest problem. Perhaps wall mounting the TV and moving my desk away from the wall a bit will be enough. That will put my viewing distance at about 4 feet or 120cm for work. I have not found a good way of simulating different display sizes and viewing distances.

Still the best purchase you can make for improving the visuals. 0 image retention issues so far and I still love the fact that I can get the full 4k screen real estate without having to use scaling. Recently I also went with an avr to get proper surround sound and even the earc works flawlessly. There are still the usual drawbacks of using a TV but I've grown used to them. I should probably make a follow up video to explain all my thoughts
