@@Ermelious to be fair, I don't know and that's why I'm quite anxious about this topic. In EU, we don't even get the "total hour counter" on the LG OLEDs via firmware (option is removed for whatever god-knows reason). Given that I use the panel approximately for 12h a day and you said 3000h of usage, then I'm lucky if I get the whole year through. (3000/12=250days) Needless to say, my use case is quite extreme and I punish the panel with a ton of static content but I also use the energy saving features and prefer the panel to be dimmer than most users... so hopefully it kind of balances out the worst of the issue. I will be programming my own screen-on timer soon though and will also start giving updates on the burn-in situation regarding the panel on a monthly basis so anyone interested in such a use case could have their expectations set at a reasonable level. I know that RTings also did the 1yr burn-in test, but that was clinical and not really that reflective of real-world use, so yeah... I hope that kind of answers your question... unfortunate that I have to say - I don't know exactly for how long this panel will last... but I'm sure going to find out soon. 😂

@@kallestofeles How long would you think this OLED TV will last you as a PC Monitor before burn-in kicks in? Based on reports on several forums of burn-in issues, most users notice burn-in after 3000 hrs of usage. So the TV as a PC Monitor seems to be highly likely to last a minimum of 2 years burn-in free. I'm guessing it all depends on how bright we set the OLED to be and whether we use the other burn in reduction settings for it to last longer, after they've crossed the 2 years or 3000 hrs of usage mark.

Windows is currently the default until I've figured out what I want to do with my Arch install... been conflicted about Gnome40 and haven't figured out yet whether I want to switch it out or not. For older games though, Linux all the way as it is way easier to set everything up... unless you consider AMD GPU encoding, which is an utter mess... anyways I'm rambling... where was I? Hey Scott, thanks for stopping by! 💜 You should be good to go as long as you don't have any direct sunlight shining into the room (or worse, directly onto the screen) which would give you pretty nasty reflections on the display in darker content. (and the reflections are this TVs worst enemy) For brighter content, the TV can definitely cope with indirect sunlight, but to a degree (thanks to the glossy panel and OLED's lower peak brightness output). If you have huge windows with summer's direct sunlight blasting through them, lighting up the furniture which is reflected on the panel, then that can get annoying. Here's a quick snap I took with no direct sunlight coming from windows but as you can see, the bright reflections are still an issue with dark content as the panel is glossy: https://imgur.com/a/35grSJ8 Not a problem with brighter content and consider this as well that the TV on the picture only has 20% OLED light brightness setting currently. When you pop it to 50 or 75, then it's more than enough to overcome indirect sunlight on bright content, but then again, you're burning those precious pixels. 😅 OLED-life seems to be a balancing act. 😅

That's a good catch! Nope, I have not modified or hacked in the software in any way on the TV. When I check the help on that option, it does say that it might not be available on all models - I wonder whether there is more difference in software lockout in the C1 lineup other than the "total power on timer" for being a US thing. "General > System > Time & Timer > Timers" should still have the "Auto power off after 4 hours" option - is that one present on your model? Also, which specific model do you have? For comparison, mine is a OLED48C12LA.

@@intelligence6900 that depends. My specific reasoning for getting this OLED was simply perfect black levels with 120Hz variable refresh rate panel. Since I prefer to use the TV in a rather dark room and my eyes don't really like brightness that much, then these settings work out great for me whilst providing a ton of eye candy over any IPS/VA panels which I have used and seen in the past. Plus, lower brightness levels help with the longevity of this tech a lot whilst not making it too dim. If I had to work 8+h behind this TV with its brightness levels set over 50, my eyes would probably simply be bleeding out from their sockets. 😄 When it comes to HDR content though... yeah, the only proper setting is maxed out for the full effect and there's no way around that.

@@kallestofeles Thank you very much for your response. I got C1 few days ago. And 1080ti is really not enough for this TV. First I cannot use 4k 60HZ 4:4:4 resolution although I can do RGB. Second, I forgot that Nvidia didn't enable VRR on 1080ti cards over HDMI. This is solved, as you said, with new generation cards for which I refuse to pay inflated prices (which is my problem). That being said, although I cannot have optimal settings because of video card, the picture is amazing. The colors are different and the games look different. I do not have many games installed right now, but I tried Morrowind and it looks great. The only issue I have right now, which is maybe because of not having all settings done, is that the blacks are overwhelming in some games. For example, Cyberpunk in dark places is really dark to the point I cannot see anything. In Everquest 2 the picture is really great, but blacks seems to be so "strong" in some scenes that I do not see details anymore. Also in Eve Online picture is really dark, but it seems much better if I put FPS mode in game optimizer. I presume I need to make right adjustments for various games and I need to get used to the "balck is really black" blacks. I am sorry to hear that you got one dead pixel. This is why I never look for those in any new monitor, unless it is immediately obvious. I hope you will make more content about your experiences with this monitor and the additional settings you find to be important for the PC users.

Thank you for dropping by and for the kind words!💜 Yes! The strange thing is that since I'm more into older games, most of the games I do play on it are older RPGs and stuff from early 2000s. And well... just wow. The deep blacks are simply astonishing to look at and make me want to re-visit all those older games which I first experienced when I switched my CRT out for an LCD panel. Moreover, if you manage to snag a new GPU (Ampere or RDNA2), a lot of those games will look even better. I'm currently going through Brütal Legend again and recently re-tested Dungeon Keeper 1/2, just wow. As I also recently upgraded from a measly 5500XT to the 6800XT, I would say that if I had to choose between staying another year on the 5500XT and getting the C1 OR getting the 6800XT early and C1 later, I would definitely choose to go with the OLED first. The upgrade to the image quality is simply amazing and I would simply re-play old games with better looks until I could get another GPU to properly support the display. But that's subjective... there are also so many quirks to using this display as a monitor that a lot of people are put off by them, not to mention potential image retention issues. Speaking of issues, after only 3 months of use, I already have a dead pixel right smack in the center of the screen which annoys the everliving crap out of me. LG support told me that the warranty only covers dead pixels should they exceed the ratio of 1 dead px / 1 Million pixels - meaning that you would have to have 8-9 dead pixels show up during the warranty period in order for that to get covered. It's not an issue when using the TV as a TV, but as a monitor - once you see it, you cannot un-see it.

@@kallestofeles Actually, I found a solution to this and a way where it actually does exactly what you described. Turn HDR on in windows and put the TV's brightness 100 and HDR tone mapping off. Then set your SDR content brightness to what you want in windows settings. It should be the same or at least very close to what you set before on the TV's menu, and viola it doesn't change any SDR content, so luckily, it doesn't wash out any colours as it did in Windows 10 and HDR content will use the full brightness, which is what is set in the TV's settings. This is the perfect solution to HDR in windows, and I don't know why it took Microsoft so long to implement it like this or why I didn't see it earlier. The only thing I am not sure about is how it will interact with energy savings mode, because I disabled it because it made my screen way to dim.

Hey Kristjan, thanks for dropping by! Once you set the HDMI input as PC, you still have all the customizable picture presets/modes available to you (Expert Dark, Standard, Vivid, Game optimizer, etc) on the LG. You can set them and customize them to your heart's content + separate presets for HDR content. What gets locked down with the input mode change is the image processing, meaning that you would loose features like "noise reduction, smooth gradation, cinema screen, trumotion, etc." Hope this clarifies it a bit. If you need more specifics, let me know and I can look it up. 🙂
